We have some more spots to fill! Connect with me (Lorraine Evans) directly to confirm a spot or two! Excited to see everyone 🫶🏻

Come join us for a fun weekend of learning with Torrey Rieser Wilkinson, from Wellington FL! Memorial Day weekend, May 23rd and 24th in Dutton VA. There is ample parking for large trailers and lunch will be provided each day. To reserve your spot, contact Lorraine Evans via PM or text at 540-272-8101. Each lesson is $125 and payment required in full beforehand via Venmo.

Torrey is a USDF Diamond Achievement rider, awarded this designation for earning her USDF bronze, silver and gold medals and freestyle bars, all of which she earned on horses she developed from foals (two of which she bred personally). She is also a US Equestrian "r" judge, and is currently based in Wellington, FL training with Ali Brock and Laura Graves. She is a kind and compassionate trainer, always putting the horse first, and progressing training at an appropriate pace. She is also a patient instructor with a gift for making dressage principals easily accessible to adult and young riders at all levels and on horses of all breeds.

Torrey also has professional experience outside of the horse world. She received her PhD in Industrial/Organizational Psychology and worked in the corporate world for 15 years helping clients in the areas of executive coaching and leadership and career development. Whether her students’ goals are to compete in the upper levels of dressage or simply to improve their partnership with their horse, Torrey helps her students gain the skills and confidence needed to meet their goals and enjoy their time in the saddle.

Tail care is a real pet peeve of mine. 😅 Some horses are blessed with naturally incredible tails, and some are not, but most fall somewhere in the middle, and how you care for it can make all the difference.⁣

My biggest rule? Never brush a dirty tail. 🚫🪮 Wash it first, spray it, let it dry, spray again, and then comb — not brush. Work in small sections from the bottom up, holding the hair above where you are combing to help prevent breakage. Be gentle, take your time, and work knots out softly instead of pulling through them.⁣

Once each section is combed, tie it up and move on until the whole tail is done. After that, let the sections down and gently brush through the full tail to make sure it is smooth all the way to the roots.⁣

Don’t forget to trim. A little and often is best. ✂️ I like to keep the tail no longer than the middle of the fetlocks to help avoid horses stepping on it and pulling hair out.⁣

When it comes to trimming the top, it really comes down to personal preference. A more natural look has become popular, especially in dressage, but whether you leave it natural or lightly tidy the sides, the key is to keep it soft, blended, and natural-looking.⁣

Healthy, full tails don’t just happen, they’re cared for. 🐴
