🌟 Strong Schools Need Strong Leaders and Strong Leaders Celebrate One Another.

Throughout October, BAM Educational Acumen is celebrating National Principals Month by shining a light on the principals of Eagle Pass ISD through “Pass the Torch”, principals recognizing fellow principals.

The idea is simple and meaningful: a principal recognizes something they admire in a colleague’s leadership, then passes the torch for that colleague to celebrate another. Each recognition highlights the difference school leaders see one another making for students, educators, and families.

With weekly features throughout the month, our goal is to celebrate every EPISD principal, because every school’s leadership deserves to be seen and appreciated.

Thank you to Mrs. Stanwick for nominating Mrs. Soto-Gonzalez, principal of Graves Elementary.

October is National Principals Month. BAM Educational Acumen is proud to highlight Lydia Stanwick, principal of ECC. Not only is she my older sister, but she is also a role model at home and in her leadership role.

Lydia exemplifies what it means to develop others, strengthen instructional systems, build trust with families, and keep students at the center of the work.

Leadership is not about doing everything yourself. It is about building the capacity of others so the work can grow and last.

💜 THIS OCTOBER, WE AREN’T JUST RAISING AWARENESS — WE ARE CREATING CHANGE.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a time to come together, speak openly about domestic violence, listen to survivors, share resources, and remind our community that no one should have to experience abuse in silence or alone.

Domestic violence can affect anyone, and breaking the cycle begins with awareness, education, compassion, and action. It means knowing the signs, believing survivors, challenging the stigma that keeps people silent, and creating a community where asking for help is met with understanding — never judgment.

This year, we are especially grateful to see Eagle Pass and Maverick County continuing to have these important conversations and take meaningful steps toward supporting survivors. The opening of our first independent domestic violence shelter is one example of the progress that can happen when a community comes together with a shared commitment to safety and support. But our work does not end there — awareness must continue every day.

💜 To every survivor:
You are not alone. Your story matters. Your safety matters. Your future matters. You deserve to be heard, supported, and treated with dignity. There is no shame in asking for help, and you never have to face this journey alone.

🤝 To our community partners, city leaders, advocates, volunteers, donors, organizations, and community members:
Thank you for helping us keep this conversation going. Thank you for speaking up, sharing resources, creating opportunities for support, and helping our community understand that ending domestic violence is something we all have a role in.

Visiting the Pro Football Hall of Fame reminded me that great teams are built by developing people, not by expecting everyone to bring the same strengths.

Each person brings different talents, experiences, and abilities. The power comes when those individual strengths are recognized, developed, and brought together toward a shared goal.

That is at the heart of the work we do at BAM Educational Acumen: building individual capacity while strengthening the collective.

Because sustainable impact happens when people know what they bring to the team and understand how their strengths contribute to something bigger. 💙🏈
