🌱💚 Growth Takes Time

Healing, learning, and becoming the person you want to be doesn’t happen overnight. Some days you may see progress, while other days may feel a little harder—and that’s okay.

Remember to give yourself the same patience and kindness you would give to someone you care about. Every small step forward is still progress. 🌿✨

Keep going, keep growing, and trust that meaningful change takes time. 💚

💜 Let’s Paint the Town Purple! 💜

In recognition of Su***de Awareness Week, The Support Hub is inviting local businesses to help us Paint the Town Purple on Monday, September 7! ✨

Businesses can show their support by displaying a Su***de Awareness Walk window decal, decorating with purple papel picado, featuring our “Fall Into Hope” slogan on their marquee, or even creating a special purple-themed food or drink for the day. 💜🍩🥤

Every participating business helps us spread a visible message throughout our community that mental health matters, hope is here, and no one has to face difficult moments alone.

We would love to see businesses across our community join us in turning the town purple and helping us Fall Into Hope! 🍂💜

I’ve been looking through Texas’ new literary works list, and there are some strong selections on it.

Many of these books and authors belong in classrooms. And there are some important themes woven throughout the list such as: courage, character, freedom, citizenship, responsibility, justice, sacrifice, resilience, and the tension between the individual and society. Those are meaningful ideas for students to wrestle with.

But I keep coming back to one question:

How much of what students read should be decided at the state level, and how much room should teachers and local communities still have?

Texas is a big, diverse state. What connects with students in one community may not fully reflect the experiences of students in another, including our border communities.

For me, this isn’t about choosing between the classics and more relevant or contemporary literature.

We can have both.

Rigor and relevance. Shared knowledge and local voice.

The books we place in front of children say a lot about what and whose stories we believe matter.

That part of the conversation deserves our attention, don’t you think?

Under Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick's proposal, the Texas Education Agency would lower a district's accountability rating by a full letter grade if the district fails to remove a book the state determines should not be in its library: http://www.kens5.com/article/news/local/full-list-books-dan-patrick-school-libraries/285-dccb696d-e6d8-4a6b-88e1-c1e06e4c800a?tag1=kensshare
