Excellent article. My clients and my CEO group frequently talk about how to find 'the right' new hires on a fairly consistent basis. In many ways, this is another way to say everyone in your organization from top to bottom needs to understand what your company 'why' is....your company mission. So many people, including the CEO don't take the time to get their company mission right. As I always explain it, it is your reason for being, how your company makes your customers' (or your customers'customers) lives better each and every day. Say it short sweet and elegant (15 words or less) and you will have it right.
This article takes it one step further to bring meaning to the individual without always thinking about that bigger meaning. And it doesn't matter what size the business is. It works for all.

WHY MOST COMPANY MISSION STATEMENTS SUCK…BUT GOOD ONES ARE VITAL TO YOUR GROWTH
I attended a meeting this morning where the keynote speaker stated that missions weren't important. I disagree. I do agree a major perception of 'mission statements' is they are full of BS, fluff and don't say anything. I agree that is an example of a bad company mission. But in my opinion, you already have a company mission. It is your core reason for being. You generally can't change it and if and when you think about it hard enough, it will come to you. The part that takes some effort is saying it simply, in less than 10 words.
