If you’re questioning your own resilience, please consider reading this article written by a colleague at Divorce Support Collective. As she says in the article:
“You are already someone who gets back up. Not someday. Now. The track record already exists, whether or not you've been keeping score.”
People sometimes assume resilience is something you're born with, like curly hair or brown eyes. You either got it or you didn't.
One of our DSC members, Fränya K. Isley, makes a case for a different way of looking at it. Resilience isn't a trait, it's a track record. It gets built one hard thing at a time, and it has nothing to do with holding it together gracefully. You can cry in your car, lose your patience, have a day where you can't get out of bed until noon, and still be one of the most resilient women you know. The getting back up is the part that counts.
Here's the part worth sitting with: if you're afraid you can't handle what's coming next, look at what you've already handled. That list is probably longer than you've given yourself credit for.
