๐บ๐ธ NEVER FORGET โ September 11, 2001 ๐บ๐ธ
This morning at 9:00 AM, members of our community gathered around the flagpole to pause, remember, and honor the lives forever changed 25 years ago today.
We were joined by local community members, first responders, and the Elkin Elementary School 3rd Grade class as we reflected on the events of September 11, 2001, the lives that were lost, and the extraordinary courage shown in the face of unimaginable tragedy.
We can never adequately thank our first responders for what they do. Police officers, firefighters, EMS personnel, dispatchers, volunteers, and countless others willingly step toward danger when the rest of us are trying to get away from it. They meet people during some of the most frightening and difficult moments of their lives and answer the call to help.
Following this morningโs remembrance, members of the community placed American flags around the flagpole. ๐บ๐ธ Each flag represents the many law enforcement, fire, and EMS agencies โ both career and volunteer โ that serve Wilkes, Surry, and Yadkin Counties.
Different departments. Different communities. One shared mission: to protect, serve, and take care of one another.
September 11 also reminds us that heroes do not always wear uniforms. On that day, ordinary Americans stepped forward to help strangers. People ran toward those who needed them. Neighbors helped neighbors. Communities came together. In one of our nationโs darkest hours, we witnessed the incredible strength of the American spirit.
Twenty-five years later, that is a lesson worth carrying forward.
Remember those we lost.
Honor those who answered the call.
Thank those who continue to serve.
Help your neighbor.
Step forward when someone needs you.
May we never lose that willingness to care for one another, especially in someone elseโs greatest time of need.
Never forget September 11, 2001. ๐บ๐ธ
Never forget the heroes.
Never forget the power of a community that stands together.
