A little over a year ago, we began working on a free mapping and GIS solution for our local fire departments and first responders. In the last six months, the map has been used more than 2,500 times. I wanted to take a minute to celebrate the successes of the project and most importantly the contributions of all our Volunteer Fire Departments. They have been instrumental in helping me create and distribute this map and the associated GIS data. It is not perfect, but we are still making progress. Please share the word with your friends and family. It is FREE for anyone to use.
This map displays the current 911 Addresses as well as State, County, and National Forest Roads. Many of these roads and addresses do not exist on commercial GIS/GPS applications or the most recent printed fire maps. It also has the new fire district boundaries and many other useful data layers. The intent is to help reduce response times by using current data. This is also available in a free mobile application called ArcGIS Field Maps. This app uses your mobile device's GPS antenna to show your location as well as to map you to your intended location. It is available in your App Store for free.
The map is named Madison County Fire Multi-Int Solutions and is available at https://multi-int.maps.arcgis.com/.../mapvi.../index.html... .
Please download the free Field Map application and use it. Share it with all your friends and family, especially our local first responders. Call, text, or e-mail me with any suggestions or ideas you have for ways to use the maps. I want to create a community of people who use this project and help each other make it better. I can send you a tutorial or walk you through the processes on the phone. I have the expertise or contacts to make almost any mapping and GIS idea you can imagine possible. However, I cannot solve a problem I don’t know exists. For example, I am currently working to collect the locations of all our fire hydrants in the county. I am also working to make the map available in an offline environment. I want people to be able to use Field Maps when they do not have Wi-Fi or cellular coverage. I can be contacted on Facebook, by e-mail at [email protected], and text or voice at (479) 841-2181. I look forward to watching this project grow and especially helping our first responders reduce response times and save lives and property.
