We need to change the way we label processes of birth. As a retired midwife and childbirth education of over 20 years, I’ve watched numerous variations of normal. There is no one way or one label. To say a woman is fully dilated could mean she’s reached 9 cm, 10 cm or 11 cm, depending on the size and shape of the baby’s head. We need to stop depending on a number to tell us how a woman is progressing in labor.

Are you pregnant and being pressured by your doctor to get a Tdap or flu vaccine? Did you know the FDA says:

"Currently, there are no vaccines approved by FDA specifically for use during pregnancy to protect the infant."

The CDC pushes vaccines on pregnant women, but it is an "off-label" use and the necessary safety studies have not yet been done.

Fear is a powerful motivator. Should you fear your child will die of pertussis (whooping cough) if you don't get vaccinated while pregnant? In an average year in the U.S., there are 5 deaths in infants due to pertussis, out of a population of approximately 4 million infants. While the loss of any child is tragic, the fatality and injury rate and longterm health outcomes of children exposed to a vaccine in utero is unknown.

Studies are showing that newborns are catching pertussis from their fully vaccinated toddler siblings and other vaccinated individuals. The acellular vaccine cannot prevent infection or transmission, at best it can minimize symptoms, making those recently vaccinated potentional asymptomatic carriers.

Are there alternatives? Yes. You can find a good naturopath, chiropractor, or other practitioner who has experience with optimizing your health and your child's health to improve natural immune resilience, and who knows safe and effective treatment protocols in the case of infection.
