Someone told me their Meta ads weren't working.
Three weeks of purchase ads. No sales. They wanted to know what was wrong
with their creative.
I asked who they were targeting.
Cold traffic. No retargeting. No warm audience. No prior brand exposure.
That's the problem.
Not the creative. Not the copy. Not the offer.
The objective.
You cannot ask a stranger to buy from you on the first interaction and
expect it to work consistently. Meta's algorithm needs signal — and a cold
audience with zero brand awareness gives it very little.
The funnel stage determines which objective to run:
Cold traffic → Awareness or Reach. Goal is recognition, not conversion.
Warm traffic (watched videos, visited your site, engaged with posts) →
Consideration. Drive traffic, collect leads.
Hot traffic (added to cart, high intent) → Conversion.
Now you run purchase ads.
Running conversion ads to cold traffic isn't wrong because the ad is bad.
It's wrong because you're skipping two stages.
