Its time we stopped punishing hospitals and IT staff for data breaches. They are victims just as much as the patients.
It's time we shift our focus from the vain task of protecting the unsecurable.

Accessing information of any type should never be considered wrong.
It isn't wrong or immoral to have knowledge.
The true crime is when knowledge is used maliciously.

Instead of persecuting the victims of the data breach, the courts and law enforcement should punish the people who use information in harmful ways.

Once we as a society make the quantum shift to a more open and sharing environment, then we will see amazing rewards in healthcare.

I'm Back! Sort of
After a few years hiatus from healthcare IT, I have returned as a systems admin for Heywood health. A few hospitals, urgent care centers and clinics in About a dozen locations.
While living and working on Nantucket island managing a chain of hotels and marina was very relaxing. A total dream job, I missed healthcare.
So much has changed in a few short years.
I have a lot of catching up to do.
Look forward to some in depth security blogs soon

6 years ago, I warned Charlie Baker about the dangers inherent in a localized monopoly and felt that UMass was growing too big, too fast. This is just one of the many issues they are creating. I feel for the hundreds of small independent physicians in Worcester County fighting for each penny paid.

Health care is a complicated business on all levels, and one of the most confounding aspects of hospital operations is how they're paid.
