I had to semi-retire all of my live audio describing of plays due to my arthritis and neck problems because I use a scooter 24/7 and modes of transportation beyond a mile are difficult for me to use. I have used Access-a-Ride, but the long wait times for pickup and return, and uncomfortable jostling for my joints on long trips make it an exhausting choice - because I need to go to the show I'm describing twice, once to preview, and once again to describe. I took the city bus system, which is also unwieldy with difficulties with ascending the small ramp, and the time it takes the driver to secure my scooter. I was using my scooter unsecured last October and the bus had to brake hard to avoid an accident, and I was thrown to the floor. My right side of my body was bruised and my hip sprained and the recovery was painful. I have to be able to take the scooter TO the door of the mode of transportation, and use it at my destination, and then TO the door of the transportation to go home. My current scooter is over two years old and is getting a bit beaten up and it only goes 5 miles per hour, so I don't feel completely safe crossing sidewalks on busy streets like Broadway. This fundraiser for this scooter will free me up to use an electric scooter that can be used in my building, then on the streets to and from my destination at a speed of 30 miles per hour, and right into my apartment at the end. I hope you will consider either donating or spreading the word. If you have any ability to support this goal (with the bad economy I know it's a big ask) I would be able to once again describe the shows that I love to share with the blind audiences at various venues. Thanks for your consideration and I truly hope for continued health and happiness for you and yours. -- Love, Bonnie
