🔌UPDATE: October 23, 4:40 PM🔌
We're now below 2,000 outages, but we know many of you have been without power for several days. Currently, 1,963 members remain without power, spread across 138 outages.
👷♂️ All 15 GVEA and contractor crews are out working on restorations. However, heavily bowed trees are slowing progress. We expect those still without power to remain out for an additional 24 hours. We understand how frustrating this is, but we really are in this together - GVEA employees are also among those still out of power.
⚡️ Rest assured, line crews and the myriad of support staff at GVEA will continue working until everyone is restored. We got you. 💪
ℹ️ On an informational note, many have asked if we prioritize restorations based on who’s been out the longest. The answer is that we actually have to restore outages in a specific order for system stability and safety. Our crews work from the power source outward. Think of GVEA’s system as a network of roads, with electricity traveling down them to reach your home. When outages happen, it’s like roadblocks appearing along those streets. 🚧
To get everyone back online, we must first clear the major highways (larger transmission lines or substations) before we can access and repair the smaller side streets (individual homes or neighborhoods).🚦
🏠 So, even though your home may have been out for a while, we can’t restore it until those main lines are back up. Repairing your "street" won’t help if the "highway" leading to it is still blocked. ⛔
🚐Location and travel time also factor in. If a crew is working miles out of town on a large outage, it’s more efficient for them to stay and fix smaller outages nearby rather than spend time traveling back and forth.
Ultimately, our aim is to restore power to the most members as quickly as possible, while keeping the system stable.

UPDATE - October 23 at 1:00 p.m.
⚡️ Numbers are coming down! ⚡️
There are currently 2,097 members without power, spread across 149 outages.
🔵 There are are awful lot of few blue dots on the outage map, and 37 of them are 1-member outages. If you're part of a 1-member outage, it might be due to damage to your service drop.
🔧 Reminder: If there's damage to the service drop, it’s the homeowner’s responsibility to arrange for repairs with a contractor. To help move things along for members, GVEA staff are making the rounds to help determine if GVEA or the member is responsible for repairs based on where the damage occurred.
👷♂️ If you suspect damage, call a licensed and bonded electrician for an assessment. If repairs are necessary, you’ll need to contact GVEA to safely de-energize the line before work begins.
🚨Calling all licensed and bonded electricians!🚨 We encourage you to comment on this post with your business name and contact number for members who may need your services!
💪 We're working hard, folks! Appreciate your patience and support, as always. 🙏

UPDATE - October 23 at 8:50 a.m.
⚡ There are currently 2,342 members without power, spread across 145 outages.
We made great progress overnight with help from Anchorage area crews 🙌. They tackled some of the larger outages, and our right-of-way crews worked through the night, assisting with tree cutting 🌲.
If you’ve been following along on the outage map (https://outage.gvea.com), you might notice that the outage boundaries shift each time you refresh your browser. This can sometimes make it look like your home is not part of an outage, but this feature is in place to protect the safety and privacy 🔒 of our members.
Over half of the current outages are affecting 9 members or less, so please be aware it will take some time to get to everyone. Crews are spread across the system, working as quickly and safely as they can.⚡
