Out bushwhacking up and down the mountain taking a look at different stands of white oaks to see which ones are producing acorns and which ones arent in preparation for the upcoming archery season. The dog keeps rolling his eyes at me every time I take the binoculars out to look up in the trees for acorns but he’s having a blast.

Rubbing frostbite does more harm than good. If you get frostbite try to get out of the environment you are in as quickly as possible, don’t let it refreeze, and soak the affected area in warm water.

2019 started the trend of poor recruitment of stripers from their largest spawning grounds. Three years ago I started to notice a shortage of school sized fish, and today it seems as if there’s none around which I know isn’t true because I’ve caught them. Theres more people fishing for these fish post covid than at any other point in modern history.. I wonder what the future holds for these fish. A lot of big stripers and almost no skoolie sized fish. Will we do the right things in order to protect this fishery? I hope.

Using a knife to split firewood “batoning” is just plain stupid. You risk injury to yourself, damaging what might be your only cutting tool out there and it’s a waste of energy in a survival situation.
