I just sent an estimate for my fifth house raise for this summer. If this one goes through I will have houses in Sumas, Everson, Bellingham, Mount Vernon, and Unincorporated Whatcom County. 🤯

Doing the as-built drafting, coordination with engineers, and getting through the permitting process is not new to me, but the flood plain development process is something that I am currently learning a lot about.

If you have considered raising your house in the floodplain and you're not sure where to start, please feel free to contact me. It is not a cheap process, but I think we have all seen that this flooding problem is not going away.

Busy is a good problem to have!

I now have house raises in:

Sumas
Mount Vernon
..And a few other projects cooking. I am a little tired, quite busy, but feeling extremely blessed!

I've been busy this month and I'm so grateful! I have about 8 projects I'm hoping to wrap up before the end of the month. Here is some of what I'm doing:

House moves: measuring the entire house including the crawlspace and sending measurements to structural engineers and house movers so they can formulate a quote for their work. Then I work with the surveyor to determine heights if the house is in a floodplain, finish my drawings and a building permit, add the structural engineer's drawings and submit for a building permit!

Building permits: just incorporating redlines and energy code adjustments and re-submitting for a contractor I've worked with a lot and I'm familiar with their homes and process.

Planning services in conjunction with utility upgrades.

Retroactive building permits.

I've been busy! If you have work you've been putting off due to the permitting headaches, please give me a shout!

Things are moving right along with my first moved house project in quite awhile and now I have an initial site visit for another one. I love this work! It's a fun little mystery digging around and trying to put together what's already been built and accurately reflecting that on plans, assembling a design team (queue the Avengers), and gently shoving the project through permits. This work is rewarding and it's a great day!

I've been quiet, but I'm still here! Still drafting, permitting, planning, and helping dream. Heck, I'm even solving small drafting problems like this quick little revision to some grading plans for an investor. It doesn't have to be pretty or fancy, I do the small stuff too! This is great news, thank you BIAW! Natural gas bans would make energy code compliance an absolute nightmare not to mention driving up costs for builders and homeowners in Washington State!

BIAW filed a lawsuit today, asking the court to direct the State Building Code Council to modify state energy codes to comply with the new law.
