Erosion - Just one of the concerns stakeholders voiced before the project. Residents were concerned with the sediments used to bury the vegetation washing away. As you can see, this is indeed happening in certain areas. One of the photos shows wood that is completely exposed now that was previously buried in the destruction. The others illustrate areas throughout that are eroding away. Also very clear in these photos is the lack of new vegetation growing. Over a year and some areas still have only a few to no new plants. It is evident now more than ever that this project was an absolute waste of time, money, resources and energy. Completely worthless. For those in favor of this project, it is going to be very difficult to debate its validity moving forward.

As we continue to monitor: This section was completed over 8 months ago and currently there is ZERO new vegetation (plant life) growing back. The only vegetation present are the plants that survived the demolition. Citizens were told we would see new vegetation within months. Since the District refused to replant after their destruction, we can only "hope" and pray the area recovers. 🙏

Here is some of the area that was "saved" adjacent to the destruction. Saved by local stakeholders in opposition to the project with a buffer area that was applied to the project map that could not be leveled. Fortunately, within this buffer still contains the plant diversity that makes the area beautiful and strengthens it's ecological value. Hundreds of mangroves that were saved within the buffer and are now seeding. It's ironic to see many of the plants that would have been completely obliterated, if not for citizen's voices, are now producing seeds to regrow new vegetation in the areas destroyed around them.

In an attempt to heal the destruction, local citizens planted mangrove seeds over a month ago in some of the areas demolished. We are happy to report as of today they are blooming and seem to be doing well. Since the District is not replanting the areas they decimated, we are doing our best to help jump-start the regrowth. We will monitor the progress.

Storm Protection before the project, Storm Protection after the project. The community expressed grave concern about the loss of this critical storm protection for homes. We are now facing THIS reality.

This goes hand in hand with what the Flagler Beach Saltmarsh Project has been doing in an attempt to protect environmentally sensitive lands/waterways. Let's make sure to support this group's efforts by signing the petition to stop Over-development on Environmentally, Ecologically and Historically Sensitive Lands in Flagler County.

Stakeholder/Citizen-financed core sampling for DDT/Organochlorines/Pesticides completed in the project site Friday 6/7/19. This will serve as an additional layer of environmental protection for Flagler County and is completely a win-win situation for those truly concerned with the health of estuaries. Thank you to those who donated generously, the individuals who gave their time & energy to help facilitate the testing, and to everyone who continues to help spread awareness.

As an update: Terracon is scheduled to be at the project site this Friday, June 7, 2019, to take their core sampling and begin the process of ensuring the safety of our estuary and all connecting waterways from the potential release of DDT/Organochlorines into the environment. Thank you so much to all who so generously donated to this important cause! We will update you as soon as the results come it.

The St Johns River Water Management District, and its partners, are undergoing a project in Flagler County in an attempt to reverse what the Army Corp of Engineers did over 70 years ago when trying to control mosquito populations by creating Dragline Ditches through the wetlands. However, this sp...
