As warm, dry conditions continue, keeping our local forests safe is our top priority.

Did you know that almost 90% of wildfires in our state are caused by human activity? Taking a few extra precautions helps prevent avoidable accidents and keeps our community safe.

Currently, both Clallam and Jefferson counties are under full burn bans. This includes all recreational campfires and charcoal grills.

Here is how you can help protect our lands:
- Follow posted rules: Many landowners do not allow campfires, fireworks, or ATVs at any time of year.
- Watch your vehicle exhaust: Never park on dry, tall grass—hot exhaust pipes can ignite dry brush instantly.
- Report fires immediately: If you see smoke or a fire, call 911 right away.

Thank you for doing your part to keep our forests and communities safe!

Welcome to the Team, Levi!

We are happy to introduce our new Forestry Intern, Levi!
Levi joins us from Gresham, Oregon, and is currently pursuing a degree in Forest/Civil Engineering at Oregon State University, with plans to graduate in the spring of 2028.

His interest in forestry was sparked by his grandfather, who served as a forest engineer for the U.S. Forest Service. Hearing his granddad's stories and looking through old photos inspired Levi to follow in his footsteps.

Since starting out, Levi says the most interesting and rewarding part of the job has been harvest unit layout—specifically seeing the immense amount of careful thought, planning, and precision that goes into every single unit. During his time with us, he is particularly excited to dive deeper into the complexities of road design and layout engineering.

When he’s not working in the woods, you can usually find Levi outdoors enjoying mountain biking, snowboarding, fishing, or hiking.

Please join us in giving Levi a warm welcome!

Pacific Forest Management is excited to welcome Juan Mena Jr. to our team as an Inventory Forester!

A graduate of Forks High School, Juan brings four years of professional forestry experience to our Team. As an Inventory Forester, Juan collects data that supports sound forest management decisions.

Juan's interest in forestry started early, inspired by his father, who has worked in cedar salvage for nearly 30 years. When asked what he enjoys most about the job, Juan keeps it simple: "Nothing beats being out in the woods."

We're thrilled to have Juan on board and look forward to the expertise, energy, and commitment he brings to Pacific Forest Management.

We are excited to introduce Jade Pelayo to Pacific Forest Management!

Jade joins us as a intern from Green River College, where she is currently working towards her degree in Natural Resources / Forest management (graduating in June 2027!)

With a strong passion for silviculture, Jade spends most of her time in the field taking measurements in reforested stands, where she especially enjoys the occasional wildlife sighting.

Her non-negotiable essentials for a full day out in the woods? Plenty of water, good snacks, and extra hair ties!

Please join us in giving Jade a warm welcome to the team! We are thrilled to have her with us!

Introducing our new team member!

Please join us in giving a warm welcome to our newest team member and intern!

Jacob Guenther comes to us from Green River College, where he is currently pursuing a major in Natural Resource Management. He is on an impressive academic track, set to graduate in the Spring of 2027 with multiple Associate Degrees under his belt.

What he's enjoying most about his internship so far is the hands-on opportunity to constantly learn, meet new people across the industry, and - most importantly - spend his day working out in the field.

He has already unlocked the secret to surviving the legendary Pacific Northwest weather: always pack your rain gear, even when the sun is shinning.

Spring is Peeking Through!

Despite the wintry weather we've been having lately, our foresters are seeing proof that nature is right on schedule.

Keep an eye out for these early signs of spring on your next trip in the woods:
- Oxalis: carpets of bright green are beginning to pop up from the soil.
- Skunk Cabbage: Those unmistakable yellow flowers appearing in the wetlands.
- Salmonberry: The very first pink blossoms are just starting to open.

It's a cold start, but spring is on its way. Have you spotted any early blooms in your neck of the woods?

PFM is officially in the thick of planting season; this year we will be planting 350,000 seedlings across the west end!

When it comes to planting seedlings, one size does not fit all. Our planting prescriptions are unique to each site as we consider the following:
- Site Assessment: We match tree species to specific soil and site conditions.
- Strategic Planning: Every acre has a custom plan for spacing, density, and species diversity.
- Long-term Care: We don't just plant and walk away; we'll be monitoring these seedlings closely to track their growth and health.
