As a general practitioner, we truly are asked to do it all. It’s why I call myself Okay_Vet. It’s just not possible to be great at all of these different specialities. I have my strengths and interests and the rest I do the best I can and offer referral where appropriate and if clients are able.

I tried to save the rabbit (the rabbit is fine, I am not).

Sure would be nice if our patients could talk to us! But since they can’t, we have to play detective and search for subtle signs through a detailed physical exam.

I constantly call her my little burnt potato! 🥔 Thankfully I don’t think she hears too well, otherwise she might have opinions about it 🙃🙃

Have you ever had to switch a patient from a fresh food to a prescription dry food diet and been met with resistance? Well now you have options!

JustFoodforDogs makes a line of prescription fresh foods, like kidney health and low fat GI, allowing you to keep your patients on a similar type of food but meet their specialized dietary needs to match their health. It’s important to state there is nothing wrong with prescription dry food, but when a client is feeding fresh food that’s a decision they’ve put a lot of thought into and they will be much happier if they can stay with fresh when using a prescription diet.

Check out their free veterinary portal at the link in my bio.

Spays are a complicated procedure that we treat as routine because we do it everyday.

2lbs is generally accepted as the smallest patient that should receive a spay. While the surgery can certainly be completed at smaller the risk of anesthetic complications, especially hypothermia goes way up!

The procedure gets easier as they get bigger up to a certain point and then it starts getting exponentially harder! No one really likes doing giant dog spays. I’ve been fortunate to have a lot of experience with them so I really will do a dog of any size, I’d just prefer not to.

Body condition also plays a huge factor. If they are overweight it doesn’t really matter the total size of the dog, it will be harder.

This is Winston and he was diagnosed with Feline Infectious Peritonitis, more commonly known as FIP. It used to be an automatic death sentence. Thanks to intense research and pharmaceutical development we now can save cats like Winston.

Pet parents, don’t accept euthanasia as the only option. Treatment exists and it works for a lot of cats!
If you happen to be in the northern Colorado area- CSU continues to conduct clinical trials and your cat may be eligible.

Veterinarians- if you’re not familiar with diagnosis and treatment- follow CSU clinical trials, seek out CE, and follow me and I’ll share more!
