Hosting an au pair means you will have access to up to 45 hours a week of child care, during which your children will gain a wider cultural perspective by learning about the culture of the au pair's home country. No matter what their age, children may learn to like a wider variety of foods, begin learning a second language, and come to appreciate songs, stories and holidays based in another culture. Au pairs on our Au Pair or Extraordinaire programs care for children of all ages – infants from three months of age, pre-school and school age. EduCare companions are au pairs who care exclusively for older children who are in school for a full five days a week.

‼️ Admin Post ‼️

Welcome to our page Au Pair in AMERICA / USA 2021/2022! 🌍🔜🇺🇸️ Nice to meet you! We hope you will have a great time here... 💁‍♀️💁‍♂️👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Please read our page rules at the beginning. If you have a specific question, you are also welcome to use the search function within this group. So you can see whether this question has already been asked and answered by someone else ... 😊
When you are searching for host families or Au Pairs, please always name the agency you are working with. Thank you!

⚠️ Please be careful guys! There are a ton of fake profiles on facebook (especially in Au Pair groups) pretending to be host parents and looking for an Au Pair! Most of the time they are from “beautiful places” in the U.S. like Los Angeles, Miami, New York City etc ... PLEASE DON'T FALL THEM ⚠️

➡️ For example: If someone recently added you as a friend called SALLY BURNETT, BRUNO WYATT, CHARLES JERRY or SHAUNY WILKINS (and lot of more fake accounts...) block these accounts and go on with your life ... ALWAYS check their facebook profil especially the accession date, their photos, the agency and just their whole profile ...

Sally Burnett is a fake and I already blocked her from this group but she had time to add some of you I believe. After I outet her as a fake she blocked me immediately... ⬅️

⛔ Tips to identify scammers (fake host families / fake au pairs): ⛔

1️⃣ There are some designated au pair agencies in the US that can sponsor a US Au Pair visa (J1). For example: Cultural Exchange International does NOT exist - so 100% a scam!
PLEASE NOTE: Many scammers use similar sounding names e.g. in this case a mix of InterExchange and Cultural Homestay International. Any real US agency will use the real names

2️⃣ If still in doubt, contact the agency they claim to be with/work for (or the ones that is closest to the name used) via the contact information on their official website or their verified social media account to check if the family is signed up with them or if the email that is used is really associated with their agency.

3️⃣ ‼️ Most important: never pay any money especially not via Western Union or to a bank account that is from host Family . ‼️

4️⃣ Lastly, if it sounds 'too good' it is mostly not real. If a family promises to pay 4x the regular pay while only working like 10h per week, tells you that you can still apply even if you aged out etc etc it will not be real. Any real agency will either have you sign up directly with them or via one of their official partners in your home country. Those will have a real application, a contact person, professional website and professional email address.

Our team recognizes scammers very quickly and usually blocks these requests to join immediately. Now and then a scammer makes it into the group. You can report suspicious activity at any time. In addition, we have certain algorithms that quickly recognize scammers and block them directly for this group. Stay safe! 🍀

In the U.S. you can only be a legal Au Pair thru one of the 14 designated agency’s which are designated sponsor organizations for the J-1 Visa! 🇺🇸️ 🏙️ If you want to become an Au Pair in the U.S. you definitely need an agency and the J-1 Visa - otherwise it is illegally!

If you are not sure about a family being real - contact the admins of this page or directly the agency and ask ... ❓❗️ They will tell you if they are a registered family or not.

Thank you for your attention! And enjoy "the best time of your life ..."

Travel Costs

Although we recommend Host Families to support Au Pairs with the travel costs, it’s not their direct obligation to do so. Initially, the transportation costs will be covered by the participants. If the future Host Family would like to help the Au Pair, the prospective refund will be done in installments after the Au Pair arrival in the host country. We recommend the families to repay the ticket price in 10 installments, added monthly to the Au Pair salary. For example, you can add 80$ extra for 10 months for a 800$ ticket.

We recommend to discuss this matter before the Au Pair experience begins and preferably write them down in the Au Pair contract.

In the USA and China the ticket is covered by the Host Family. Moreover, if the Au Pair completes the whole stay (12 to 24 months) as agreed in the contract, he/she can get a return ticket covered as well.

Choosing Childcare: Au Pair
Fewer than 1% of users in our Babylist survey chose an au pair as their childcare solution.

See our complete childcare guide.

Though you do have to host the au pair in your home, they can be a cost-effective childcare option. Here’s how it worked for one Babylist user and her family.

Figuring in their more-than-full-time jobs and daily commutes to and from their home in the Boston suburb of Wi******er, Massachusetts, Wendy and her husband knew that they would need close to 45 hours a week of childcare. They thought that meant a nanny was the best option, but job posts on both Sitter City and Care.com didn’t yield much for the price they could offer. “The only interest we received were people from with little to zero experience,” says Wendy. “We had an infant, so we wanted some experience.”

“They don’t charge you to search.”

They found the cost of daycare too high for infant care and its flexibility lacking. In-home daycares were off the table too. “It didn’t have the same amount of comfort,” Wendy says.

So they began to look into au pairs — live-in caregivers in their teens and early 20s who contract through an agency for a job/cultural exchange opportunity. They started with two agencies, as “we were told to broaden our umbrella as much as possible,” says Wendy. “They don’t charge you to search.” Prioritizing slightly older candidates with previous infant experience, they interviewed a total of four potential au pairs, ultimately hiring the person they connected with best.
