T-Pain is suing Akon's Konvict Entertainment again. Second time.

Konvict got paid $1.3 million for his music this year. He's owed 75% of that. Instead of paying him, they allegedly sent a chunk of it to a company run by Akon's own brother, one T-Pain never signed with, and told him to go collect it from them.

Three practical, doable moves for any working artist or songwriter:

Know exactly what kind of publishing deal you're signing, co-publishing and admin deals are not the same thing and the difference matters. Get songwriting splits agreed on and written down at the session, before memories start to differ. Understand what a publisher is actually responsible for, so you know when something's being handled and when it isn't.

Simple moves. Most people just find out why they matter the hard way.

Larry June just had the biggest album debut of his career. His second full album this year.
