With GLP-1 medications like Ozempic and Mounjaro becoming more common, many patients are asking whether they could harm their teeth and gums. 💊🦷

A new preprint study of more than 180,000 users found that GLP-1s were not linked to an overall increase in oral health problems. Users actually had a lower risk of cavities and gum disease than patients on other diabetes medications. Dry mouth was the most commonly reported issue, and it was more frequent among people who lost more weight.

The research hasn't been peer reviewed yet, so more studies are needed. In the meantime, our teams are paying close attention. Letting your dental provider know about any new medications helps us tailor your preventive care, especially if you're experiencing dry mouth.
