The purpose of the Frankfort CARES Coalition is to support and strengthen organizations who are ensuring access to shelter, food, healthcare, mental health assistance, affordable housing, substance use disorder treatment, and other basic needs and opportunities for individuals in our community. We intend to be an action-oriented group that works collectively to address community-wide gaps, garner community support, and expand the capacity of member organizations to better serve the needs of the community. Our work includes the following goals and objectives:

Homelessness Prevention- to reduce homelessness by identifying and addressing social service gaps, including, but not limited to, emergency shelter and temporary housing in the county and city. We will prioritize working together to improve access to these services. Affordable Housing- to increase Franklin County's access to fair housing by identifying community housing partners and establishing accessible housing opportunities. Community Advocacy- to educate the community on the importance of its social service agencies by creating coordinated messaging, developing shared public outreach materials, and conducting public awareness campaigns. Agency Support- to better equip agency staff and board members by identifying shared needs and locating resources, trainings and other opportunities for all member agencies.

Lots of information to start the week.

With increasing temperatures and humidity, a Major Heat Risk impacting those most vulnerable will likely occur this week starting on Tuesday. Consider limiting outdoor activities during the hottest part of the afternoon and stay hydrated. Check on those with poor or no available A/C. This excessive heat is expected to last at least until Thursday, possibly into the weekend.

08/31/2026

Warm temperatures overnight will provide limited relief from the increasing heat later this week. Heat indices reach the low 100s for everyone by Wednesday with highs in the mid to upper 90s.
