Montealegre Atelier was launched by Valerie Wilhite, a Colombian-American who studied both high jewelry and traditional practices in the Colombian mountains where nature provides beautiful flora and exquisite emeralds to inspire and enthrall.

Back to the street! I’ll be at ART CRAWL FRANKLIN tomorrow (Friday) starting at 6pm. On display you will see jewelry made in silver with some gemstones. If you’re curious about the process, drop by so I can share how I shape metal with fire and hammer. MOST EXCITING OF SLL IS THE LOCATION FOR MY POP-up: ! I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!

2025 was a year of coming into being, as an artist, as a business. I found the Arts Council of Williamson County and began showing my work at Franklin Art Crawls. I took a chance and applied for the program for artist entrepreneurs called Periscope offered by the Arts and Business Council of Nashville. It was a huge honor and a great opportunity to have been selected. I learned so much with them and the mentor they found for me, the wunderartist Tony Perrin of Lock&Key. I also had the good fortune to study with Charles Lawton-Brain and others with visits to the mountains where William Holland Lapidary School nestles. I participated in Art events in Lebanon and Cookeville as well as 100 Taylor Art Market in Nashville. In the fall I was able to pitch my jewelry business to members of the Nashville business and arts communities. It was a huge surprise to have judges at the event select me and Montealegre Atelier with the Fifth Third Bank Award for Excellence in Entrepreneurship. The relationships with other Periscope artists fortifies me. I was so happy to be able to join Susie Campion in her perfect studio to participate in the Belmont 12South Art Crawl to close the year by selling out. Now it’s time to get to work in the studio to see what I can bring forth in 2026. So much gratitude for 2025. So many vibrations and buzzy positivity for 2026. It is a winter holiday kind of evening for this Franklin Art Crawl. Wonderful new artists here sharing the experience with me at the Franklin Factory. This old factory produced wonderful ovens back in the day, before my time. But the vestiges and heritage of that work remained essential to the space when it started to take on new roles in Franklin. It housed restaurants and antique stores. My cousin celebrated her graduation here in the late 80s.
Its ovens greeted visitors up until a few years ago. Today it is always full of bustling activity with theatres, restaurants, boutiques. Once a month the Williamson County Arts Council offers locals and visitors a glimpse of the area’s finest artists. I’m lucky to be welcome in this historic space in my community.
