Revenue is great. Profit is better. But value? That’s about transferability.

When I sold my first company, I assumed the buyer would be obsessed with our financials. They were.

But their bigger questions were:

➡️How will the business run without the owner?
➡️Are processes documented and followed?
➡️Can the team execute without the founder in the room?
➡️Is revenue recurring, repeatable, and predictable?

That’s why I encourage owners to build with value in mind, not just growth. Because even if you never sell, a business that’s valuable to someone else is usually a business that’s more enjoyable to own!

Ask yourself: When buyers look at my business today, what would they see as a red flag?

Most companies don’t fall short because they lack smart people or strong ideas.

A quote attributed to legendary basketball coach John Wooden says, “The true test of a man’s character is what he does when no one is watching.”

In a similar way, company culture is revealed through everyday actions: hiring, communication, decision-making, and by what happens when no one’s watching.
