Anderson Outdoor Incorporated AOI sets the gold standard in landscape design & installation, dirt work, road construction

This whole backyard started as solid rock.

Out here in the Hill Country, the yard you want is usually buried under it. So we design it, bring in our own machinery to break it out, and build it from there. One company from the first sketch to the first fire.

What came out of the rock: a sunken fire pit with a Breeo smokeless fire pit inside, a gas fire pit on the front porch, custom welded steel planters around the outdoor kitchen, and limestone walls holding it all together.

Got a lot that fights back? That's the kind we like. Sunken fire pit or front porch fire, which one are you pulling a chair up to first? Tell us below.

Did you know AOI builds pickleball courts? Base to net, start to finish, right here in Fredericksburg.

Photos 2 through 4 show where this side yard started. From there we excavated and graded, set a compacted aggregate base, and poured a concrete pad with expansion joints. On top went VersaCourt performance tile in light blue, navy and graphite with pre-painted game lines, plus in-ground net posts and a net set to regulation height and tension.

Around the court we installed an artificial turf surround on its own compacted aggregate base, so the whole space plays and looks finished.

Photos 5 through 7 show the build, photos 8 and 9 show the finished court, and photo 10 puts it all side by side.

Would you put a pickleball court in your yard? Tell us below.

Three cedar rails, a wire mesh backing, and 328 feet of fence line that looks like it has always belonged here.

This split rail fence was hand-fit on site. Every cedar post is set in concrete and the rails slide into mortise pockets in the posts, so there is no exposed hardware anywhere on the run. A 4-foot galvanized welded wire mesh runs the full length to keep the yard closed without hiding the fence, and two custom-hung cedar gates, a 4-foot single and an 8-foot double, finish it off.

The fence wraps the new outdoor living space we built at the same time: a flagstone patio, outdoor kitchen, gas fire pit and a Palisades Zoysia lawn.

The last three photos show the same spots before the fence went in.

Would you go with cedar split rail or a solid privacy fence at your place? Tell us below.

Watch this Fredericksburg yard go from bare dirt to finished, start to finish.

We took the whole property down to dirt and rebuilt it turnkey. That includes 400 linear feet of 8-foot cedar privacy fence with welded gates, a new Hunter Hydrawise irrigation system, drainage systems with sump pumps, steel edging, a pickleball court, native plantings, and landscape lighting from the street to the back fence.

Grading and drainage go in first, then irrigation and lighting lines, then plants and finishes on top. Nothing gets patched around what was there before.

A half-acre tank, dug from a Hill Country pasture and sealed to hold water.

We built this tank start to finish outside Fredericksburg. The crew stripped the site, cut a core trench and packed it back with native clay, then shaped and compacted the basin and banks lift by lift. A double bentonite blanket seals the floor, moisture conditioned and compacted in two lifts with clean topsoil between them.

The water has somewhere to go, too. 580 feet of 8-inch drain line carries the water tank overflow down to the pond, with 380 feet of 4-inch line, two 24-inch NDS basins and a channel drain feeding it.

The last four photos show dig day from the drone.

Pond, dirt work or drainage: which one does your place need first? Tell us below.

Custom welded steel, layered plantings, black gravel, and a lawn that stays green. This is a finished Fredericksburg landscape.

A new planting bed wraps the front of the home, edged in custom welded steel that our own team welded on site for one clean, continuous line. Inside it: Texas sage, dwarf yaupon holly, Mexican bush sage, sotol, red yucca, soft leaf yucca, and muhly grasses, all on drip irrigation under black gravel.

Fresh topsoil and Palisades Zoysia sod extended the front lawn and repaired the turf around the tree accents, graded to drain away from the house, with the irrigation heads reset to the new grade.

The last four photos show where it started.

Which would you want first: the steel-edged bed, the grasses and gravel, or the green lawn? Tell us below.

Same house. Same spots. Swipe to see what a full tear-out and rebuild does to a Fredericksburg yard.

Every bit of the old landscape came out. From there we rebuilt the whole property, turnkey. That includes all of the fencing: 400 linear feet of 8-foot cedar privacy fence with welded gates. Plus a new Hunter Hydrawise irrigation system, drainage systems with sump pumps, steel edging, a pickleball court, native plantings, and landscape lighting from the street to the back fence.

This was a really special and fun project for us and our team, from the first design consultation with these clients through the whole build.

Starting from zero is the right way to build a yard like this. Grading and drainage go in first, then irrigation and lighting lines, then plants and finishes on top. Nothing gets patched around what was there before.

The last five photos are the same spots before and after, plus the full cedar fence run.

Which would you want at your place first: the cedar fence, the lighting, or the pickleball court? Tell us below.

The porch lights are on and the fire is going. Here's what we built around this Fredericksburg home.

Oklahoma flagstone walk set in gravel. Limestone fire pit, courtyard wall, and oak planter. River rock beds with steel edging, raised steel planters, and native Habiturf, all on rotor and drip irrigation. Lantana, Russian sage, red yucca, and muhly grasses in the beds.

The last slide is the same walk at golden hour.

Our teams have been busy this year!

We built this tank from bare ground, just over half an acre, then pointed every drop of water on the property at it. The rainwater collection overflow runs 580 feet of 8 inch pipe straight in. French drains keep pressure off the limestone walls we built. NDS basins and a channel drain catch the rest.

One property. One water plan. Every drop accounted for.
