The SECRET Art Of Improvement
In the entry below Jake a Lacrosse expert talks about how to improve any skill in lacrosse quickly. Now you may not play lacrosse but the formula he gives you works with anything in life. Check it out below...
Every week or so I get an email with something along the lines of, "Jake, how do I get better at lacrosse really quick?"
Although that's a loaded question, here is a way of thinking that might help you get better at lacrosse faster. Below is the "secret formula" -
Quantity of reps x Quality of reps x Consistency = Improvement.
An example - let's say you want to get really good at passing. Let's use this formula to see how you can improve.
Quantity of reps - the more passes you practice, the better you're going to get. If you only do 50 reps of wallball a day, you're generally not going to improve as fast as someone doing 100 reps.
Quality of reps - if the passes you practice are half-speed, without gloves, and randomly thrown at the wall, you're not going to improve as much as someone who uses gloves and helmet and throws at the same spot on the wall. Quality is just as important as quantity.
Consistency - 1, 8-hour session of wallball a week is not as good as 7, 30-minute sessions of wallball per week, even though you're practicing less than half as much. The more consistent you are, the more muscle memory you build and the more you improve.
I like using this formula because it makes the game simpler. Most people (including me) complicate lacrosse way too much. I challenge you to take a skill you've been wanting to learn and put this formula into practice. Want to get really good at the question mark? Lefty shooting?
