VINCE GILL'S POIGNANT RENDITION OF "GO REST HIGH ON THAT MOUNTAIN" AT OPRY 100 HONORS HIS MOM AND LATE BROTHER IN A MOVING TRIBUTE!
Vince Gill delivered a soul-stirring performance of “Go Rest High On That Mountain” alongside Ricky Skaggs during the Opry 100 celebration. A cherished figure on the Opry stage for over three decades, Gill has not only captivated audiences with his timeless voice but has also been a proud ambassador for the institution. As part of the heartfelt ‘In Memoriam’ segment, the Oklahoma native once again moved the crowd with his deeply emotional tribute.
Gill first began crafting this deeply heartfelt ballad following the tragic passing of country star Keith Whitley in 1989 but didn’t complete it until 1993 after the devastating loss of his brother Bob to a heart attack.
For this powerful performance, Ricky Skaggs, who originally provided backing vocals on the song’s recording, joined Gill on stage. Adding to the emotional depth, Sonya Isaacs and a choir of esteemed Opry members lent their harmonious voices, creating a breathtaking and poignant tribute.
Vince Gill delivered a touching dedication to his mother, who is set to celebrate her remarkable 100th birthday this year. With heartfelt sentiment, he noted that she is “the same age as the Opry,” making the moment even more special.
As the heartfelt performance unfolded, a poignant slideshow honoring beloved country legends filled the backdrop, featuring icons like Troy Gentry, Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash, Jimmy Buffett, Joe Diffie, and more. The emotional tribute deeply resonated with the audience, leaving many visibly moved, dabbing away tears as they reflected on the legacies of those lost.
