Today, I had the honor of leading a conversation about Why Skill Matters in Dementia Care at the monthly Williamson County Health Resource Meeting (WCHR).

Everyone had the opportunity to learn and practice a few Positive Approach to Care (PAC) techniques developed by Teepa Snow, proving that every interaction is an opportunity to connect and see what’s still possible.

Thank you to Park Place Health Care Center in Georgetown, Texas for hosting this event.

I appreciate everyone’s engagement today and willingness to try something new and different.

Did you know that a chronic runny nose is a common symptom in Parkinson's Disease and Lewy Body Dementia? It can also happen in the later stages of Alzheimer's Disease.

The cause is usually related to brain change affecting the autonomic nervous system and medication side effects.

Sometimes doctors will prescribe Ipratropium nasal spray to alleviate symptoms.

Care plans often focus almost entirely on the person receiving care, but the care partner(s) matters just as much. They’re the ones performing the day‑to‑day magic while trying to juggle without dropping any balls—sometimes while discovering they never signed up for the circus in the first place!

Care partners benefit from understanding their abilities, identifying where they might need new skills or support, and planning how they’ll take care of themselves. Boundaries matter too—because even the most dedicated care partner can’t pour from an empty cup. Sometimes outside help isn’t just helpful; it’s necessary.
