Very grateful for Mark Starik and for his thoughtful and rigorous review of the 2nd Ed of Integrated Management: How Sustainability Creates Value for Any Business (https://lnkd.in/em9YU6Mm). Mark’s deep experience in sustainability management comes through clearly, and his engagement with the book honors both its intent and its limitations.
What I especially appreciate in Mark’s review is his recognition of the book’s effort to bridge theory and practice in sustainability—making the case for why integrated management matters to business value creation, not just academic discussion. His reflections help surface the connections between multi-level sustainability thinking and the practical challenges leaders face today.
Mark also highlights the inherent challenge of trying to address so much territory in a single work—especially in a field as broad and rapidly evolving as sustainability. I absolutely agree that no single edition can do everything, and his constructive critique emphasizes opportunities for future dialogue and development rather than detracting from the contribution.
Thank you, Mark, for your careful reading and for advancing the conversation about why and how sustainability and management must be integrated. For anyone curious about how sustainability can be woven into core business strategy and operations, I invite you to read the full review, explore the book for yourself, and I hope faculty adopt it in more of their business management courses.
