The Journey My journey with Real Time Reporting for the Security Guard Industry began more than 15 years ago in 2009, in the early stages of my private security career. I had been a newly appointed Business Development Manager for a startup Phoenix firm, but had a strong foundation in building relationships as a strength coach and exercise therapist. The story is, I've often stumbled into amazing situations by just confident networking and a real life story. I had met a tow vendor, and he mentioned "Have you ever heard about Silvertrac Software"
I hadn't heard of it , but quickly explored what it was, and inquired who to contact to learn more. Enter Chris Anderson , one of the Pioneers of RTR & Former founder of Silvertrac and (now one of my most trusted peers in the security industry.) We met over the phone and I excitedly then told my CEO at the time, we gotta meet this guy! We met in the L.A area and the rest was history. My CEO thankfully made the move to change ALL accounts from handwriting to technology, and fast.. We had gone from stressful Monday's of faxing 100's of reports to clients, so hard to read, missing, coffee stains, etc, etc. to a life where we could see everything on a dashboard, and know where guards where and seen what they were reporting. I had something that I could really get behind now, we could truly prove to our clients what we could do!
The Wins And we did, we got behind it, I'd go to meetings or conduct a phone call for a new client and they would be interested at a new level. There wasn't much exposure to anything like this yet. We grew the standing guard and patrol levels at a crazy growth rate, as it was a combination of great management and true exploitation of Silvertrac and all of its offerings. Parking, Security, Maintenance. Then in a pretty short time, we had created a local buzz and it definitely disrupted the security guard market in the Phoenix Area and later all over the Us. Larger mid-levels, even Nationals and others subscribed to it as well, as they were losing contracts and the need for this was so much there for our industry. Throughout my Business Development career, utilization of Real Time Reporting has always been a cornerstone part of my sales career success, but exploited in different way than most. Not just the GPS or accountability, I always focused on the executive reporting component, combining it with local crime information, and current events, while using it as a trends and analysis tool, now more termed Protective Intelligence.
The Now Its now 2024, and there are dozens of Security Reporting Tools out there, and so many amazing advances in technology benefiting Security Firms today such as Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, and Drones to name a few. In this time, I recommend a lot of these amazing tools but it still really boils down to a few principles of their use:
The BEST Real-time Reporting tool is the one you're using consistently and optimized (In other words, use it, set it up correctly, and simply for the outcome you NEED for your clients and to streamline your operations.)
Make sure the tool matches your company capabilities. ( I can't tell you how many times a company puts on a great presentation to win a contract but then uses the technology tool in such a sloppy way that resembles a old school paper report my 5 year old could do !! Letting officers use All Clear, and Code 4 in your reporting will be a prescription for you losing that contract SOON.)
Use a tool that matches your management teams and officers skillsets. (You need the ability to setup properties on the fly, and accurately, while still being able to communicate effectively with your officers and the entire team together). With rapid staffing turnover at any level of a guard firm, LESS IS MORE. Think Quality.
I'm a HUGE fan of real time reporting!!! I owe a lot of my past Guard Business Development success, growth and current mindset of continually embracing new Security Technologies to it. The firms that I represent have benefitted from it in amazing ways! Lets continue to raise the bar, and make each other better in using this amazing technology tool to most benefit our clients and firms respectively.
