Is anyone else feeling the "mental brace" right now? ✋🏻
Between the budget conversations, leadership shifts, and the constant hum of AI replacing roles, it feels like we’re all walking on eggshells. If you’re a high-achieving woman, you probably know this feeling intimately: your brain turns into a 24-hour prediction machine, trying to figure out if you and your family are safe. Trying to listen for new clues, unintentional leaks, and secrets into the future direction of your organization.
We carry so much, don't we? The mental load at home, the school runs, the "loyal employee" expectations - and now we have begun to add the weight of job insecurity on top of it all. It’s exhausting, and it's all counterintuitive to keeping our well-being intact.
But I want to share a little bit of grounded hope with you today.
I’ve been looking at the actual 2026 data, and the story the "fear machine" tells us isn't the whole truth:
- The market is still active: U.S. unemployment is low at 4.3%, and there are nearly 7 million job openings.
- The "AI Boomerang" is real: Nearly 68% of employers who cut roles for AI have already started rehiring for them. Why? Because they realized they can't replace your human judgment, your empathy, or your ability to solve messy problems.
If you’ve been doom-scrolling job boards or questioning if you’re "good enough" to survive a layoff, please hear this: Your value isn't just your job title. It's not even the tasks you know how to do. It’s the way you steady a room, the way you anticipate a need before it happens, the way you dive into finding a solution for a new problem in your specific context, and the way you untangle chaos. Those are the things an algorithm cannot do alone.
Let's start by reclaiming some breathing room. 🌿
Since we can't control the job market, let's control how much of it we allow into our internal "dashboard." I’ve put together a resource specifically for times like this: 25 Practical Boundaries for Work, Home, and Chaotic Times.
It’s designed to help you stop the energy drain so you can navigate these changes with a bit more clarity and a lot less bracing.
