The person before me put in $5 at the gas pump today, and it reminded me of something we all need to hear when life gets hard.
I just stopped at the gas station to get some gas. I got out, walked over to the pump, and noticed that the person before me had only put $5 worth of gas in their car.
I’m talking one gallon of gas. Barely enough to get you around the block at these prices.
My first thought was, “If this is what they put in their car today, I wonder what they’re going through.”
And it made me think about how sometimes we go through life with less fuel than we’d ever want to admit. Often without the right resources to help us refuel our tank.
Sometimes you’re not sure if you have enough fuel to get through life’s next challenge.
In this case, it was just $5. Barely one gallon of gas.
And yeah, that can feel heavy.
Like life keeps squeezing you, and you’re just trying to figure out how to make what you have stretch a little further.
I’ve been there. I know that feeling well. And I’m sure many of you reading this have been there too.
But we have to remember:
A small amount of fuel can still move a car. And small steps can still move a life forward, even in your most challenging times.
If you’re the person who only has five dollars today, don’t let shame sit in the passenger seat next to you.
Keep showing up for your life.
Keep putting in what you have, even when what you have feels minimal.
Because building momentum is a process, and sometimes that process starts quietly.
Sometimes it starts with just $5.
Sometimes it starts with one small decision to keep going, even when you don’t know how you’re going to make it through.
And sometimes, that’s enough to get you to the next mile.
One small fill-up at a time.
PS: To the person who put that $5 in the tank today…
If times are hard right now, please know that you are not alone.
I don’t know your story, but I know what it feels like to have to make something out of almost nothing.
I know what it feels like to wonder how you’re going to get through the next day, the next bill, or the next challenge that life throws at you.
So if that $5 was all you had today, don’t be ashamed of it.
You put something in the tank.
You’re still moving, you’re still here, and you didn’t give up today.
So please, keep going.
Believe me, things can get better.
And for whatever it’s worth, a lot of us respect you for not giving up today.
