The City of Washington CH will be fogging for mosquitos this Monday and Tuesday nights. City Wards 1 and 2 will be fogged from 7pm-11pm Monday night, then Wards 3 and 4 on Tuesday night, during the same hours. If you have respiratory problems, you should make sure your windows are closed and window air conditioners turned off.

County Fair season in Ohio gets underway this weekend with the kickoff at the Pickaway County Fair, June 20-27. Pickaway County Fair will bring eight days of agriculture, entertainment, exhibits, fair food, competition, and summer traditions to the Pickaway County Agriculture & Event Center in Circleville. Kids, don't forget your dads as this Sunday is Father's Day. Father's Day originated in the United States in 1909, as it was championed by Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane, Washington. She was raised by a widowed Civil War veteran, and inspired by the recently established Mother's Day, she wanted to honor the sacrifices her father made to raise six children alone. In 1924, President Calvin Coolidge publicly supported the holiday, but it wasn't until 1972 that President Richard Nixon signed it into permanent law, establishing the third Sunday in June as a national holiday.

MORNING HEADLINES

The four inches of rain from early Thursday morning has Paint Creek Lake on the rise. The U.S. Army Corp of Engineers report that the current lake elevation is 801.13 and expected to continue rising. Outflow is at 1.55 feet and the Corp says they are closing to minimum flow to account for the current stage at Bourneville. Be prepared for access areas at the Lake to close.

Today is Juneteenth Celebration, which marks the day in 1865 when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to ensure all enslaved people were freed, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Poor communications at that time resulted in many slaves not knowing their fate until months after the war ended. Today is a federal holiday, which means government offices and banks are closed.

Coming up this Sunday, it will be the Summer Solstice at 4:24am, better known as the official first day of Summer. Friends of Serpent Mound will be hosting their 17th annual Summer Solstice Celebration at Soaring Eagle Retreat, 351 Horner Chapel Road in Peebles, today through Sunday. Serpent Mound historical site at 3850 State Route 73 in Peebles, will have extended hours on Saturday from 5:30am to 9:30pm. Sunday hours are noon to 5pm.

Picnic in the Park is back for its second year in Washington CH. Local organizations come together to provide families with free activities, resources, and opportunities to connect. Plan to attend on Monday (June 22) at the Eyman Park Splash Pad. The event begins with a 10:30am wellness walk.

The Ohio Supreme Court has ruled 6-1 that a Euclid police officer did not violate a motorist’s constitutional rights when the officer stopped the driver for suspicion of being involved in an armed robbery, but also stopped him for a suspected window tint violation. The Supreme Court reversed an Eighth District Court of Appeals decision suppressing the evidence discovered during the traffic stop that led to a weapons charge against the driver.
