We had a major Oopsie the other day...

We were in the middle of printing some adorable turtles when suddenly our 3D printer decided to malfunction mid-print! But, as they say, when life gives you lemons, make lemonade... On the bright side, we now have a super cool piece to show exactly what's on the inside of our prints. We're actually pretty stoked to have this little mishap, as it's given us a unique opportunity to share some behind-the-scenes insight into our printing process. So, what do you think? Are you as fascinated by the inner workings of 3D printing as we are?

Fun Fact Friday

Ever wonder what type of plastic is used for 3D printing? We use PLA and PETG, two popular thermoplastics with distinct properties.

So, what's the difference?

PLA, is a bioplastic derived from renewable resources like cornstarch or sugarcane, and offers a more environmentally friendly option. It's known for its low warping and easy printability, making it perfect for beginners. On the other hand, PETG boasts excellent mechanical properties, including high impact resistance and flexibility. Its durability and resistance to chemicals make it ideal for functional parts and prototypes. Both materials have their strengths, and understanding their differences can help you choose the right one for your next 3D printing project!

Check this out!

We are thrilled to introduce our stunning Crystal Dragon with wings! This incredible piece was brought to life using Translucent PETG filament, which allows for a mesmerizing glimpse into the printing process. You can actually see the printing layers in it as well as being able to glimmer light throughout it. It's hard to believe that this beauty took a whopping 24.7 hours to print!

Did you know?

3D printing has become widely accessible; there are sites that allow you to download other people's designs and print them for free. However, many of these designs, especially the cool or intricate ones, require a license or subscription to the designer to sell. It is an honor system as they cannot keep people from selling them, but trust that the rules are followed. Not every seller follows copyright rules. It is easy to get away with not paying for the rights to sell an item.

We at Darcy's Designs will NEVER sell other people's designs unless we have the rights to do so. Full transparency, we currently have subscriptions to two makers, where we can legally print and sell their full library of designs. We also make several of our own designs, and for custom requests.

Does this make it harder to grow the business? Of course!!! But we follow the copyright laws. Doing things the right way is more difficult, but that is a path that we wholeheartedly choose to go down every day. I hope this shows you our integrity, and the care that we have for our fellow makers. Supporting each other in community is better than breaking the 8th commandment - do not steal.

If you made it this far, thank you for reading and have a wonderful day!

Be careful out there guys!

We were contacted yesterday regarding a sale inquiry. The person was communicating through text and everything seemed normal, an order was requested, we were texting back and forth about prices and shipping costs. Then when it got to the payment portion, it got weird. They asked for payment details and they came back saying that the payment was declined and that we should be getting an email from the financial institution. They wanted a screenshot of the email to continue. When I looked up the email address online to verify if it was valid, it wasn't from the payment company, rather from a scammer. The email had a customer service number listed which probably would have attempted to scam us if we continued. We promptly deleted the email, and blocked the sender from texts.

Scammers and hackers are out there, be careful who you do business with. If you don't have to, it's best to not click links from emails. I prefer to go the actual website for whatever I am doing, if possible, instead of clicking email links. Also look up phone numbers on the website as well, don't trust phone numbers within emails as they may not be legitimate either.

Have a great day and don't get scammed!

P.S.
If you ever have someone reach out to you saying they are from Darcy's Designs LLC and it is not the phone number or not the email listed on the website, then it is not us!!!
