A family in Greer needs someone weekday afternoons, 3:30 to 7:30, Monday through Friday.

Same household, same hours every week. No overnights, no weekend rotation, no being on call. If your mornings are already spoken for - a school run, another job, a class - this is the shape of shift that fits around them.

What this family needs most is steadiness. The same face at the same time, somebody who doesn't get rattled and doesn't rush. We do ask for experience, and experience you earned looking after your own family counts here. It isn't a lesser version of this work.

You'd be on our payroll as an employee, not a contractor, paid weekly, with a team behind you on the days you can't be there.

Call the office at (864) 693-1010, or message this page and we'll call you back.

The question we get asked most often isn't about rates or schedules. It's: how do I bring this up with my mother?

There isn't a good script. Most people end up waiting for an incident - a fall, a missed dose, a pot left on the stove - because an incident feels like permission. Then it's an emergency conversation instead of a calm one.

For what it's worth, the version that tends to go best isn't "you need help." It's "I'd feel better if someone was here on Tuesdays." Small, specific, and about you rather than about her. Easier to say yes to, and easier to walk back if she isn't ready.

You don't have to get it right the first time. Most families don't.

If you want to talk it through before you talk to her, call us - whether or not you end up hiring anybody. (864) 693-1010

Most of what we do is ordinary. Someone shows up at the same time, makes the same breakfast, and knows which chair she likes.

The question families ask before they sign anything is about the other day. The one where the caregiver is sick, or their own child is sick, and the shift starts at nine tomorrow morning.

We send someone else. That's it. It isn't a clever answer and it isn't cheap to run, but it's the thing that decides whether a daughter can actually go back to work on Tuesday instead of taking the day off again.

If you're working out care for a parent in Greer, Taylors or Simpsonville, it's a fair question to ask any agency you call, ours included. Ask what happens when somebody calls out.

Our team walked at Fluor Field on Sunday for the Walk to End Alzheimer's.

What stays with you afterwards isn't the fundraising. It's the size of it. A few hundred people in one field on a Sunday afternoon, and almost every one of them is doing at home some version of what you are doing at home.

That's the part worth knowing if you're caring for someone with dementia in Greer, Taylors or Simpsonville. It can feel like yours is the only house on the street doing this. It isn't, and it isn't close.

Next year, come and stand in it with us.

Two families in the Upstate are waiting on a caregiver, and the hours are smaller than most people expect.

One in Simpsonville, 10 to 2, two days a week. One in Taylors, 2 to 5, two days a week. No overnights, no weekends, no being on call.

Those shifts fit around a school run, or another job, or an afternoon that is already free. You would be on our payroll as an employee, not a contractor, with a team behind you on the days you cannot be there.

We do ask for experience. If yours came from years of looking after your own mother or grandmother, that counts here. It is not a lesser version of this work.

Call the office at (864) 693-1010, or message us here and we will call you back.

Both of these are people who would rather stay in their own home. That is the whole job.

Fluor Field yesterday. Every one of those flowers stands for somebody.

If you're caring for someone with dementia around Greer, Taylors or Greenville and you've never been to one of these, go next year. Not for the fundraising. Just to stand in a field with a few hundred people who already know what your week looks like.

There's a moment a lot of families describe almost the same way.

You're helping your mother with something ordinary, her sweater, her breakfast, and she looks at you like she's trying to place you. Then it passes. She's back, the day goes on, and you don't tell anyone about it.

Nobody prepares you for that part. There's no training for it and no schedule to it. You just carry it.

If that's your house right now, you're not doing it wrong. Dementia caregiving is one of the hardest things a person can do, and most of the people doing it have never once called themselves a caregiver.

Our team is walking in the Walk to End Alzheimer's at Fluor Field tomorrow, Sunday, October 4. Gates at 2:00, ceremony at 2:45. Families are welcome, kids are welcome, and it costs nothing to walk with us:

Saturday morning we'll have a table at the Senior Expo at Greenville Tech's Barton Campus. Ten to one, free, no ticket, no sign-up.

If you've never been to one of these, it's worth knowing what it actually is. It's a room where most of the people who help older adults in the Upstate are standing behind tables at the same time. Medicare questions, hearing, legal, home health, senior living, the councils on aging, us. You can walk the room and ask anybody anything, and nobody is going to chase you to your car.

That's a good three hours if you're somewhere in the middle of working out care for a parent and you don't yet know what you don't know. Bring your questions. Bring the list on the back of the envelope.

Come say hello if you like. And if what you need isn't home care, we'll point you to whoever it is.

Greenville Tech, Barton Campus - Saturday, October 3, 10am to 1pm.

We're at the Thomas McAfee Grief Seminar today, over at the Kroc Center in Greenville.

The evening session is tonight, 6:00 to 7:30, and it's open to the public. You don't have to be a client of anybody's, you don't have to talk, and you can sit at the back and leave at 7:31 if that's what you need.

Grief is one of the few things where nearly everyone around you has a private opinion about how long it ought to take. A room where nobody's keeping score is worth more than most of the advice.

Kroc Center Greenville, 424 Westfield Street. Tonight, 6:00 to 7:30. You can just turn up, or register here: https://www1.thomasmcafee.com/grief-seminar-2026-page
