We are delighted to introduce our final board member – MAYOR - Diego Plata!
Diego is a force; you might find him at Gunnison City Council meetings, whooping it up at the (amazing music venue in Gunnison, CO), going on some ultra-trail run suffer-fest, working remotely as a sustainability analyst, engaging with his beautiful family, and getting out of his comfort zone in other ways.
Doing so, he said, “…is refreshing because it allows me to see my weak spots, and hone in on what I can do to improve them.”
We asked him about serving as Mayor, while working a very demanding corporate job. He said, “While my wife, two daughters, two dogs, and 10 chickens certainly keep me company, I found civil service to be a way to not only be out and about within the community, but also to build new friendships and relationships with so many wonderful people that I wouldn't have otherwise have met. Moreover, connecting with the immigrant community in the Gunnison Valley has allowed me to express and reconnect with the immigrant Latino, who I am.”
When asked about leadership, Diego said, “Leadership is a trait naturally within us all, and shows itself in different ways. If tapped into correctly, it can be incredibly beneficial for one's self-worth, as well as creating a positive impact on those around you.” We agree with you, Diego!
