As many of you may know, SteelStar was founded to allow me to work for small businesses and non profits on a contract basis. That is exactly what I am doing! SteelStar is still alive and well! When I am working for and with the Foundation, it is in the role of Executive Director. I have been very intentional about my role with my own business and my role with the Foundation, and suffice to say--if you have a dream, follow it! It just might come true!!

The beginning of a school year brings a fresh start for students and teachers, and so it seems fitting that a nonprofit organization that offers special funding for the Souderton Area School District is reintroducing itself to the community.

It's always a pleasure to start my day looking for my iPhone...and then the panic and dread sets in as I realize it's not plugged in to the charger. I re-trace my steps...and that leads me to the deck, where my phone sits quietly absorbing the pouring rain. Lesson learned.

I spend a good portion of my weekend engrossed in reading, "Daring Greatly" by Brene Brown. wow. Wow. WOW. this book is resonating with me on so many levels, not just as a business owner, but as a spouse, a parent, a sister, a friend. Today as I begin my week I do so with different lenses.

I hadn't plan to post today, but just finished this article and thought it was worth sharing. My business and my career ambitions come in 2nd to my job as a parent. My husband and I work hard to raise our kids with a sense of awareness and compassion, but it's not easy--it is a daily commitment. It's always nice to be reminded we aren't the only ones struggling to 'do the right thing' not just for our kids but for the community that we are a part of. Enjoy!

I am often asked by people considering starting their own business what steps they should take. I believe that setting the proper foundation from the start is critical to any business. I find that many small businesses have skipped some pretty crucial steps and find themselves in a situation they could have avoided had they know what to do. Take the time to do it right the first time and save yourself the agony of having to do things over.

August has arrived much too quickly. I still find that I am waiting for that exhale that comes from this 'slower' time of year. Perhaps you are too--so we are moving boldly into uncharted waters...unplugging. The kids are a little cranky and honestly I am too, perhaps it is a long overdue exercise. What HAVE I been up to? There are days when I login to FaceBook and see that in the status line and feel as though this is an accusatory question!! Although today I believe it is a question I am long overdue in answering. Summer is in full swing, and one of the things that I looked forward to 'being my own boss' was adjusting my schedule so I would be able to balance time with family, take care of my clients and grow my business. You know, just like that. Rookie mistake. :) I am pleased to report, my clients are awesome...I have been blessed to partner with some amazing people over the past few months and grateful is merely an understatement. I am being challenged in ways I never imagined and it's fantastic. (most of the time) I AM enjoying time with my family, although the reality is that it's 6 weeks into summer vacation and even the best plans run their course. I am hoping that in the upcoming weeks I will be able to become more diligent in my posting, and share more about some of the clients that I am working with. In the meantime, please continue to share the good word about SteelStar, and know that although I have been quiet on this posting forum, I have not been resting.

Good to be back from a much needed week in the sun! I can't help but think that there was some divine intervention at play as my email was completely down all week--I am up and running and have made a successful transition to Google, which makes me happy and enables me to be far more effective on a number of levels with my client communications. All that said, if you emailed me last week, I didn't get it. Please resend and I will reply to you just as soon as I can.
