Do Not Redesign Jobs. Redesign the Tasks.

The future-of-work conversation gets distorted when leaders ask which jobs AI will replace.

A more useful unit is the task. Stanford economist Erik Brynjolfsson argues that almost no job is fully automatable while almost every job contains tasks AI can change.

That gives talent leaders a practical starting point: map the work. Which tasks should be automated? Which should be augmented? Which require judgment, trust, context, or human accountability?

The leadership challenge is not simply workforce reduction. It is redesigning roles so human capability and machine capability reinforce each other.

AI Adoption Is an Operating Model Problem

A pilot proves that a model can perform a task. Scaling asks a different set of questions.

Who owns the workflow now? What system does AI write to? What happens when output is wrong? Which role changes? What does it cost at volume? Where must human judgment remain explicit?

Those are not model questions. They are operating-model questions.
The organizations that scale AI will redesign work, decision rights, data access, economics, governance, and oversight together — not bolt a model onto yesterday’s process.

Q4 Does Not Need More AI Ideas

Most organizations are not short of AI ideas. They are short of executive attention, clean data, accountable owners, and a credible path from pilot to production.

Q4 should begin by narrowing the portfolio. Ask of every proposed use case: What workflow changes? What value lens moves — time, cost, quality, revenue, or risk? Is the data ready? Who owns the outcome? What happens if it works?

The goal is not to find the most impressive use case. It is to find the few that matter enough to implement.
