Vanna Hurley Napier ( Mom) is being added to the Roll of Honor inside the American Saddlebred Museum at the Kentucky Horse Park. While in discussion with the staff at the museum. My Great Grandfather, Charles E. Combs was brought into the conversation. Mom adored her papaw, and that is where her love for American Saddlebred horses began.

We are working with an archivist at the museum to document Charlie's life. Which is something that I know is making my Mom smile down from heaven. She was very proud of our family heritage in the American Saddlebred world.

As I work on that process, I wanted to share some of that history as well. Charlie came from nothing. He worked hard to become a successful man. In 1944, Charlie bought his first American Saddlebred horse - Diamond Jack at the Tattersalls Horse Sale in Lexington, KY.

As far as we know. Diamond Jack is the first American Saddlebred show horse to ever enter Perry County, KY. This is a photo of Diamond Jack. Which would make this photo about 81 years old.

I do believe I found his pedigree in the ASHA database. Registration Number: 9399S
