Happy Thursday everyone! A customer recently shared this article with us and we we thought it would be helpful to pass it along.

"...peak hours will vary by area and time of year. But as a rule of thumb, the least expensive time to run the dishwasher is at night, when lights and TVs are generally turned off and the grid isn't in high demand."

See how this tip can save you serious money.

This week we’re taking a deeper dive into the dryer. Deep and routine cleaning of your dryer is recommended for safety and sanitizing reasons. Keep reading for more information.

→ Clean that lint screen - remove all lint between every load. For a deeper clean you can wash the lint screen in the sink with a stiff brush using warm water and dish soap mixture.

→ Wipe the inside down. Once a month unplug your appliance and wipe down the drum with a 50-50 mixture of water and white vinegar.

→ For a deep clean 1-2 times a year pull out the dryer from the wall and vacuum around the wall and unit. Lint is highly flammable and removing any loose lint can help prevent house fires. If you’re comfortable, detach the vent hose connected to the dryer and vacuum out the inside of the hose to help maximize your dryer's efficiency.

Let’s refresh your refrigerator! Below is a list of tips that Peak 406 Appliance Service recommends you follow to help prolong the life of your fridge.

1) Track your temp! Fresh food compartment should remain at 37 degrees Fahrenheit and your freezer should remain at 0 degrees Fahrenheit. Unsure if your fridge or freezer is staying at those temps? Home depot and Lowes carry affordable refrigerator (or freezer) thermometers.

2) When deep cleaning your fridge let the interior of your fridge warm up to room temperature prior to using hot water to avoid shattering and/or cracking glass shelves. Once the empty fridge is at room temp wash/wipe down with hot soapy water and then wipe it down with clean water. Dry with a clean towel. After cleaning your fridge with the hot soapy water, mix 1 tbps bleach in 1 gallon of water and wipe down your fridge with this mixture to formally sanitize your unit. Try to do this 2 x a year!

3) Be aware of how you position your refrigerator! Make sure that there is a 2-3 inch gap between the fridge and the wall. This gap helps ensure proper air circulation throughout your unit to maximize efficiency.

Peak 406 wants to help you digest your dishwasher. While it does the cleaning for you it’s important to wash and upkeep your dishwasher.

-->Experiencing film buildup or overall dirty dishes after a load? Give rinse aid a try. Similar to rainx on your windshield, rinse aid ensures dishes don’t accrue buildup and stay spotless. Most dishwashers have a rinse aid dispenser next to your regular detergent dispenser.

-->How to further prevent hard water film and sanitize your unit: Put 2 cups of white vinegar in a bowl or cup on the bottom rack of your dishwasher and run a quick cycle load with no dishes, detergent or rinse aid. Do this every 3 months to help keep dishes and the dishwasher squeaky clean.

Let’s check in with your oven or range. To start, what's the difference? A range is a stove with an oven attached - a 2 in one appliance. Whereas a wall oven is a stand alone appliance. Below is a list of tips and for keeping your oven safe and sanitized.

- It’s not wise to keep your range door open to heat up your home after cooking or baking. When the heat escapes from the oven it causes the k***s on the outside of your stove to get hot. On newer stoves there’s a lot of electronics, even control boards, inside that area that can get fried from the rising heat.

- Did you know that most drawers below your oven aren't made for storage but instead for keeping cooked food warm? Great for preparing multiple Thanksgiving dishes. Check the manufacturer’s information for specifics about your oven drawer to see what it has to offer.

- If you frequently use your oven, most manufacturers recommend cleaning it every 3 months. If you rarely use it, 2-3 times a year will suffice. Smells of burning food or noticing stains are usually a good indicator that it’s time. As always, reference the manufacturer's cleaning instructions.

How do I properly upkeep my appliances? Peak 406 Appliance Service will release a post each week highlighting a different appliance. Each post will provide tips and tricks to help keep your home appliances in proper working order all year long.

What’s up with your washer?! Below is a list of some easy maintenance advice from our trusty tech, Jirka.

1. Run an empty quick wash cycle with 2 cups of white distilled vinegar once a month to keep your unit clean and sanitized.

2. You can also clean the gasket, door and, drum by wiping it down with a solution equal parts of white distilled vinegar and water

3. Leave your door ajar after every load!

4. Detergent these days are highly concentrated. Using too much detergent can cause more mildew build and even trigger a release of less water into your load. Stick to the manufacturer recommendations for your make and model and remember less is more.
