People can be impressed by your technique, awed by your ability, or wowed by your skill.

But they can only be touched by your heart.

When people talk to you after church, after your tour, after your Saturday gig, what do they usually mention?

How well you played?

Or do other details come out?

How they lost someone recently?
How they've been struggling?
How they wish someone understood them?

Music opens people up.

Are you using that opportunity to share Truth with them?

A song can cheer them up. But a Savior can set them up for eternity.

Shine your Light whenever you have the opportunity. You're not just there to play. You're there to impact.

I missed posting on earlier this month, but it’s never a bad time to discuss self-care, healing, and wellness.
An artist in a Facebook group I’m in, shared that she was concerned she’d miss out on a chance to share her voice because she just started therapy in her mid-thirties for a lot of trauma she experienced growing up. I, along with others, encouraged her to keep doing what she is doing. Her journey of growth and healing will allow her to inspire hope and connect with others in a way that only she will be able to do.
Take the time to rest, get therapy, reflect, go for a walk, get on the right medication, take a break from social media, journal, go to rehab, pray... Life is not meant to be a tireless hamster wheel of hustle and striving. That life is a lie and the cost is high. You will not regret doing things that bring you peace and make you whole. You are worth it and your art will be better for it.

Yup!

Yes! More is NOT always better, especially if you're trying to talk to everyone. Narrow it down, dial it in, narrow it down some more and talk directly to your people.

Do you agree?

Six months after I discovered the green guitar pick (see previous post), God delivered another gift to keep me on this “encouraging artists” path...

I used to be a supervisor and operations administrator at a community mental health center. One day, a unique inquiry came in over our agency website that had me crying at my desk, because I knew it was meant for me in some way. The message (edited for privacy) said:

“I have a wife and little girl. I have (or had) a dream of being a well-known music producer. I believe in God. I’ve just been stuck mentally and spiritually and don’t know how to break out of it.”

I’m NOT a therapist, but I had just found my “target audience”— the exact type of creative I wanted to reach and uplift. This anonymous musician, along with that plastic guitar pick, has continued to motivate me, especially while I’ve been heavily exploring the topic of identity this past year and how it shapes us.

The content I’m sharing here is for this artist and family man, and anyone who can relate to him. I’m also doing this for myself. I’m looking forward to ditching discouragement, embracing the gift of the present moment, and continuing this journey towards thriving online and in life. I hope to see you around!
