Bylo Built

I’ve been a little quiet on here the last few weeks, but that’s because I’ve been busy helping clients behind the scenes.

Between building websites, working on SEO, Google Business Profiles, and helping with social media, Bylo Built has kept me pretty busy.

And I’m not complaining — this is exactly why I started Bylo Built.

I know firsthand how hard it is to run a small business and still find time for all the stuff that needs done online. Sometimes your website or social media just keeps getting pushed to the bottom of the list.

That’s where I can help.

If you’ve been putting off your website, Google profile, or social media because you just don’t have time to mess with it, send me a message. I’d be happy to see how I can help.

If you run a small service business, here’s one tool we actually use and recommend.

We use Jobber every day at our other business, Bylo Acres Excavation & Grading, to handle estimates, scheduling, customer info, invoices and payments.

A lot of what we share through Bylo Built comes from what we’ve learned running our own excavation business — and Jobber has made keeping the business side of things organized a whole lot easier.

One thing I've noticed after working with contractors from all over the country...

Everybody says the same thing.

"Quality work."
"Honest and reliable."
"Customer satisfaction guaranteed."

There's nothing wrong with any of that, but if every contractor says it, it doesn't really help you stand out. What makes people remember you isn't your slogan. It's you!

Show your equipment. Show your jobs. Talk about why you do things the way you do. Tell people what you've learned along the way. People like doing business with people they feel like they know. Just ask Ron Bylo Acres Excavation & Grading

Don't be afraid to let a little personality show. That's something your competitors can't copy.

If you're a contractor, what's one thing you think makes your business different?

Ron gets asked the same questions all the time.

"How do you stay so busy?"

"Who built your website?"

"How are people finding you?"

The truth is, there isn't some secret formula.

For the last several years, we've just been intentional about how we present Bylo Acres. We wanted our trucks, website, estimates, logo, and online presence to feel like they all belonged to the same business.

Along the way, I've noticed a lot of small contractors make the same branding mistakes—not because they don't care, but because they're busy running jobs and wearing ten different hats.

I put together a blog sharing some of the biggest ones I see and a few simple ways to fix them.

If you're a small business owner, I hope it helps.

Can someone trust your business in 30 seconds?

A lot of contractors think they're losing work because they're too expensive. Sometimes that's true. But a lot of times, people never even make it to the point of asking for a price. They look you up online, spend a few seconds checking things out, and move on.

No website. Old photos. Bare Google profile. No recent activity. No clear information about what you actually do.

You might be great at what you do, but someone who has never heard of you before only has a few seconds to form an opinion. The truth is, most customers are doing a little research before they ever pick up the phone.

Take a few minutes and look up your own business like you're a potential customer. What would your first impression be? Would you call?

06/02/2026

A lot of contractors assume if they’re good at what they do, the calls should naturally come.

But the reality is… a lot of solid businesses are almost invisible online.

If someone searches your service in your area and they can’t quickly find:
• a professional website
• clear services
• recent photos
• good reviews
• consistent business information
• active social media

…they often move on to the next company.

Most customers are comparing businesses before they ever make a phone call.

Sometimes the problem isn’t your work.
It’s your online foundation.

A few things to think about:

Does your business show up well on Google?
Are your Facebook and Google profiles consistent?
Do your photos actually reflect the quality of your work?
Is it easy for someone to understand what you do and where you work?
When someone lands on your page, do they immediately trust your business?

Good branding and online visibility won’t replace quality work — but they can absolutely help the right customers find you faster.

That’s exactly why I started Bylo Built — helping trade businesses build a stronger online presence with practical, real-world branding and marketing support built specifically for contractors and owner-operators.

If you own a service business, this is worth checking out!

Jobber is offering grants from $10,000 to $100,000 for small businesses — and applications only take about 5 minutes.

There are only 2 weeks left to apply (open until June 11), and applicants also have a chance to win an all-expenses-paid business retreat with Shark Tank’s Daymond John.

Free opportunity. No catch. Just a chance to help grow your business.

One thing I’ve learned while building a small business is that customers pay attention to the little things more than we sometimes realize.

Not perfection.

Just clarity and consistency.

A clean website.
Updated information.
Real project photos.
Answering messages.
A business page that actually looks active.
Reviews from real customers.
A clear explanation of what you do.

Most small businesses already do good work. The hard part is often just making it easy for people to find you and trust you online.

That’s honestly a big part of what led me to start Bylo Built.

Not because I have everything figured out, but because I spent years learning what actually mattered while growing a real business in the trades.

Small improvements over time can make a bigger difference than people think.

I published the first blog post for Bylo Built today.

This one is a little more personal and shares some of the story behind why I started Bylo Built after growing Bylo Acres Excavation & Grading.

A lot of the advice I came across early on involved spending money we simply didn’t have yet, so I focused on learning what I could, doing things myself, and slowly building from there.

Over time, I realized how much the small things mattered — consistency, visibility, clear branding, and simply making it easy for customers to find and trust your business online.

If you’re a contractor, trades business, or small business owner trying to grow, I hope this resonates with you.

One thing I’ve learned from building our excavation business—

Most customers don’t spend a lot of time researching.

They usually make a decision based on a quick impression:
• Does this business look legitimate?
• Is it clear what they do?
• Can I easily contact them?
• Do things feel consistent and professional?

A lot of small businesses are doing great work in the field, but online, they’re making people work too hard to figure those things out.

That’s usually not a service problem—it’s a clarity problem.

Small improvements to your online presence can make a bigger difference than most people realize.
