Eight Children Found Deceased And Two Women Critically Injured Following Mass Shooting In Shreveport

Shreveport, Louisiana — Shreveport Police Department officers discovered eight children deceased and two adult women critically injured following a shooting early Sunday morning, April 19, 2026. Authorities responded to a residence in the 300 block of W. 79th Street around 5:55 a.m. where they located the victims.

The deceased children ranged in age from 1 to 14 years old. All eight were found inside the home at the time of the police arrival.

Two adult women sustained gunshot wounds to the head during the incident. Both victims survived the initial shooting and were transported to a local hospital, where they remain in critical condition.

Following the discovery at the residence, authorities received reports of an armed individual carjacking a vehicle in the immediate area. Officers located the vehicle and initiated a pursuit that crossed into Bossier Parish.

The pursuit concluded in the Tiburon Subdivision off Swan Lake Road in Bossier Parish. During the encounter, the suspect was shot and killed by responding officers.

Louisiana State Police has been called in to lead the investigation into the officer-involved shooting. Shreveport Police continue to process the initial crime scenes in the 300 block of W. 79th & the 500 block of Harrison Street in the Cedar Grove neighborhood.

Officials have not released the identity of the suspect or the victims at this time. The specific circumstances leading up to the shooting remain under investigation by local authorities.

This is an active and ongoing investigation.

I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to Rev. Dr. David A. Jones of the American Baptist Churches, Brackett-Morrell Baptist Association and Missionary Society of the South Area VII ABCOTS, and Moderator of the Piedmont Quarterly Conference, for the invitation to speak at the conference on Saturday, April 4, 2026. It was truly a meaningful experience, and I hope all who attended left with joy in their hearts and a renewed sense of safety and purpose.

I am also deeply grateful to the Piedmont Quarterly Conference for the opportunity to fellowship at Lovely Valley Baptist Church in Wirtz, Virginia. Thank you for your warm hospitality and gracious welcome.
