Innovative Bridge Company Awarded Bridge Project Supporting Soul City Solar in Hinds County, Mississippi
IBC teams with On Point Civil to deliver an engineered temporary-to-permanent access solution using two 90-foot flat railcars.
HINDS COUNTY, Miss. β Innovative Bridge Company, LLC (IBC) has been awarded a bridge project supporting the Soul City Solar development in Hinds County, Mississippi. The crossing will utilize two 90-foot flat railcars to provide critical construction access and help keep the project moving forward.
Soul City Solar, developed by Apex Clean Energy, is slated to become Mississippiβs largest utility-scale solar farm, covering nearly 6,000 acres near Raymond, Bolton, and Clinton. A development of this scale requires dependable access to move construction crews, equipment, and materials across a substantial project footprint.
IBC is teaming with engineers from On Point Civil to develop an engineered temporary-to-permanent bridge solution. The collaboration combines IBCβs experience supplying and installing railcar bridges with site-specific civil engineering to address immediate construction needs while establishing a path toward permanent service, subject to final design and applicable approvals.
For energy and utility projects, access is often one of the first obstacles that must be resolved before construction can advance. Creeks, drainage channels, and other site constraints can separate crews and equipment from critical work areas. Without a dependable crossing, equipment mobilization, material deliveries, and construction activities can face delays or lengthy detours.
Railcar bridges offer a practical approach to overcoming these challenges. By repurposing existing steel structures into engineered crossings, project teams can reduce the amount of bridge fabrication required before deployment. Once engineering, site preparation, and necessary approvals are complete, bridge components can be delivered and installed to open access to the work.
βWhen a project needs access, every day matters,β said Lee Roberts, owner of Innovative Bridge Company. βA project can have the equipment, workforce, and materials ready to go, but without access, progress stops. Working with On Point Civil allows us to address that immediate need while planning for a crossing that can continue serving the project long after construction.β
The approach has applications across solar developments, transmission corridors, substations, and other energy and utility infrastructure. Reliable crossings support construction today and can provide access for inspection, maintenance, and operations in the years ahead.
Planning for temporary and permanent use together can also reduce the need to replace initial access infrastructure. By evaluating anticipated vehicle loads, foundations, site conditions, and waterway requirements from the outset, the project team can develop a solution suited to both construction demands and longer-term use.
