Ensuring vendors are fed ASAP makes the rest of the night go so much smoother.

Photo and video teams need to be ready to shoot toasts and first dances, DJs and other vendors also have end-of-dinner duties and trying to eat at the end of the guest line and get into all the tasks at hand in a timely manner just doesn’t work.

If you’re a vendor that chooses NOT to go at the beginning of dinner, we don’t want to hear you gripe later on that you didn’t get a chance to eat!

Sorcha is usually dropping off a cake and running away, so when she’s acting as a second shooter and being told to eat right at the top of dinner service it feels WEIRD.

Ultimately Zacch appreciates what Jared does and why, he just has a different approach!

He prefers to stay introverted right up until it’s time to let the extrovert out and start the party!

While spending dinner chatting with other vendors might sound like just a chitchat moment, it can also be a really useful time to connect on timeline issues, are we ahead/behind at all and do we need to make up any time anywhere, has something come up that needs to shift the timeline entirely, etc.

It’s also the opportunity to rest a moment and gear up because once the dance party starts, the DJ doesn’t stop!

Marisa’s preference is that she (planner) dismiss tables.

There’s a lot of nuance into efficient buffet traffic and calculating how long it’s going to take the previous table to get through, paying attention to if the catering team is refilling something, etc.

It’s all a part of the guest experience. Seamless buffet traffic may not seem like a selling point, but it is definitely a drag and gets noticed when it doesn’t go well!

Something we ALL agree on when it comes to dismissing tables… GET OFF THE MIC.

Whether it is the DJ or the Planner/Coordinator or a Catering Lead that is dismissing tables, nothing gives Bingo Hall vibes more than a table number being called out over a microphone.

“B27 GET YER GRUB ON”

The professional way to dismiss a table is to go personally to the table and dismiss the guests. Explain where the buffet starts and if there’s any tricky traffic patterns to get there.

Tell them if they are to take their plate or get it at the buffet table.

This is your opportunity to serve the guests with information and courtesy!

Jared has been involved in the Private Events space for a long time.

Starting in catering and then moving into DJ services.

In that time span he’s seen the expectation for a DJ shift significantly!

Now DJs are expected to dismiss tables for the buffet (OR ARE THEY??)

Jared understands Zacch’s POV, but feels someone’s wedding is not the time to network with other vendors. He feels connection is for the off season!

If Jared has to pre-mix the dinner set he will do it in a way that still feels organic, while giving him the opportunity to take a break.

Both Jared & Zacch agree that eating in full view of guests (and often prominently if the DJ booth is up front) is not professional.

Jared prefers to live mix music during the dinner hour. Sure there’s times where he really needs a break and will create a playlist, but the majority of the time he’s mixing on the fly!
