The moment I realized documentation isn't just paperwork.
When I joined a home care agency, I expected to support day-to-day operations.
Instead, I stepped into an organization that was working through significant regulatory and operational challenges following a state review.
It quickly became clear that strengthening documentation, staffing, and compliance processes would be essential to moving the organization forward.
I wasn't a compliance officer.
I wasn't a nurse.
But someone had to help create a path forward.
So that's what I did.
I researched state requirements.
Developed a corrective action plan.
Reorganized documentation.
Helped recruit a Registered Nurse (RN).
Coordinated required staff training.
Built systems that made compliance sustainable instead of temporary.
That experience completely changed how I think about operations.
Processes aren't paperwork.
Documentation isn't busywork.
Systems don't exist just to satisfy regulations.
They exist because real people depend on organizations getting things right.
That's a lesson I've carried into every role since.
Although I had never led a regulatory recovery effort before, I approached it the way I approach every complex challenge: understand the requirements, identify the gaps, build a plan, and execute it one step at a time.
