Prompt month Natural Gas is trading near $7.00 / mmbtu. Energy only rates are seeing some downward pressure, however are still slow to respond in lower rates. Re-emergence of the 3 month contract, however not a lot of reason to believe significant drops in prices as the winter season approaches. Above average temperatures for the majority of the US with below average rainfall forecasted for the southeast next week.

Today is 09/07/2022, and the prompt month natural gas contract is trading around $8.00 / mmbtu. This is down more than a dollar from late August but still significantly higher than a year ago of $3.60 / mmbtu.

Fears of higher natural gas prices are still relevant as winter approaches and uncertainty in Europe.

Residential energy plans are still seeing 10-11 cents /kWh for energy only in the Houston area for multi-year plans. 12 month contracts are slightly higher at 11.5-13 cents / kWh for energy only

NOAA 6-10 day forecast for most of Texas is still showing below normal temperatures with above average rainfall. This is helping the drought conditions we felt in June/July.

For the first time since 1997, there has not been a named storm in the Atlantic in the month of August. Last named storm was July 3. a few months left in this year’s hurricane season. Will we continue on the quiet pace or are we in for an active September?

Today is 8/29/22, and NG is around $9.30/ mmbtu. NG was $2.72 a year ago.

Residential “energy only” rates for Houston are 10-12 cents / kWh for a multi-year contract (36-60 months). Rates are higher for 12 month contract at 12-14.5 cents / kWh.

*”Energy only” rate doesn’t include TDU rates.

A 1 cent / kWh is equal to $10 per 1,000kwh per month on you electric bill. The 2-2.5 cent delta between the multi-year and the 12 month is worth $20-25 per month more per 1,000 kWh on you bill.

Normal to below normal temperatures to start September with above average rainfall.

Electric demand is down from early August relieving the strain on electric generation in Texas. Fossil generators have been running hard this summer with little breaks until now.

NOAA 6-10 day forecast is showing below average temperatures in the south central region, with above average rainfall for most of the US.

Cooler temps with much needed rainfall will help lower overall energy demand in Texas. A needed reprieve from the strong June and July.
