🚨Attention Friends: Important Insights on Tax Preparation!!
As a tax consultant and business owner, I’ve seen firsthand how challenging it can be for individuals to choose the right tax preparer, especially in a field that is so saturated. Many people find themselves struggling with this decision, and unfortunately, some tax preparers exploit low to moderate-income earners by charging hefty fees—often 10% or more—simply because they can secure large refunds.
While it’s important to recognize that tax preparers can set their own rates, it’s equally vital for you as a taxpayer to be informed and ask the right questions.** Your understanding of the fees and services should be grounded in transparency and ethics.
Here are several points to consider:
1. Knowledge is Power:The Bible tells us, "My people suffer for a lack of knowledge." (Hosea 4:6) In our communities, this is painfully true, and many suffer from financial illiteracy. We need to take an active interest in managing our personal finances and educating ourselves.
2. Focus Beyond Refunds:It’s easy to get caught up in the enticing promise of a large refund, but that shouldn’t be the sole focus. Prioritize understanding the fees you are paying and the services you are investing in.
3. Ask Questions:Don’t hesitate to engage with your tax preparer about what you are being charged for. It's your right to understand each item on your tax return. If a preparer becomes defensive when you inquire, perhaps it's time to look for someone who values transparency.
4. Be Proactive:Take responsibility for your financial health by filing your tax returns on time and understanding the information on them. This diligence protects both you and your preparer.
5. Watch for Red Flags:With over 20 years plus in this industry, I’ve encountered numerous cases where individuals have unknowingly allowed fraudulent items on their returns. It's essential to be vigilant and ensure that the information you provide is accurate.
Let’s work together to stop the misuse of our tax dollars and foster a culture of informed decision-making. By asking questions and seeking clarity, we empower ourselves and create a better financial future.
Remember, it’s not just about the refund—it’s about knowledge, responsibility, and ethical practice. If you ever feel uncomfortable or unsure, seek out my firm or tax preparer you can trust.
Wishing you all financial wisdom and strength,
