Living Raw:
Real life is when you plan and practice and prepare for big moments and then don’t get to do them because of illness.

First Parker started out sick and missed his 1st grade performance where he had a speaking part as an adorably funny little pig. Then Emily got sick and missed her Living museum presentation where she was going to be Simone Biles. It’s that time of year where there’s always something and that phrase, “ain’t nobody got time to be sick” rings true. We had bought the costumes, planned and practiced all the lines, I got a substitute to cover my class so I could see them, and then didn’t get to go participate. Both kids experienced a time where there were some tears and disappointment. But in the end, Parker got a new homemade book that is full of “Parker’s affirmations” and Emily said she would rather miss the Living Museum instead of the 5th grade day, so she was understanding and optimistic. 😊

My friend gave me the most encouraging words yesterday. ❤️ she really boosted my spirits after I starting wondering “what should I do with this book I wrote now that it’s written? Is it even well-written? I know it’s not a juicy novel, but it’s what was on my heart to do…” Then it’s like God was listening because just a prayer and a little bit later, this!

Random thoughts for todays edition of Living Raw:

I love European chocolate! It’s just different and SO very good.

I hate the leg curl machine. Like my legs are too short, the roller doesn’t roll over my shoes when I pull up on the weight, and I don’t get a full range of motion, and then my coach caught me taking weight off of it…not my finest moment. 🤦🏻‍♀️

There is no preparing for your fridge going out and food going bad! It just stinks.

I love boots and I shall wear them again today for Go Texan Day.

Happy Friday, Friends! I pray it’s a good one and this full moon business doesn’t make my students coo coo crazy today!

Reading from a book this morning and I loved this quote, “let’s you and I agree that if life doesn’t turn out like we thought, we won’t sour into lemons.” 🍋😊
Resonates with the same thinking as the book I wrote and I have so enjoyed continuing to see Gods little reminders to me that I did the right thing by doing what I believe He asked me to do.

The unfortunate truth of owning and running a business.
Running a business is really hard.
What they don’t tell you is that it can cause severe stress and anxiety, and drains you mentally to the point of depression in even the most laid back people.
People will talk about you, compare you to others, use you, they will view you as a service and not a person anymore.
Friends and family will expect discounts and people will value you and your hard work less than a big chain store.
You have to worry about if you forget to email/message or call someone back, are they going to think it was on purpose? Did you disappoint them? Will they hold that against you? When in reality you just can’t get to everyone’s messages, emails and phone calls.
Starting up and running a successful business puts incredible strain on personal lives and relationships, many of which fail because there is just often no work life balance. You need to be the director, the worker, the admin, the marketing team, the accountant, the cleaner... All while being a parent, a husband or a wife, family support, friend... it’s one of the hardest things you will try and balance. If you give your time, you will sacrifice financial benefit. If you strive for financial benefit, you will have to sacrifice your time. It’s just the way it goes when your business is relying on you to survive and you’re relying on your business to provide!
There’s a reason you don’t see many people succeed in small businesses after 5 years. If they are successful they are overwhelmed. It takes a toll. It’s freaking exhausting. Especially the past couple of years when so much has been out of our control.
Here’s a small reminder that we are just normal people with hectic lives. Be kind, be patient, support small businesses... and hopefully more of us will stick around!

Customers can definitely suck the life out of you if you let them causing you to hate life and be angry all the time OR you could see each customer as a reason to keep loving people and treating them with kindness. 💙
