Just one of the threats a church faces. This demonstrates the need for a good surveillance system. One point to know when you are setting up your security camera, do not try to focus on 360 degree views. It makes the angles too wide and detail to low. Rather focus on choke points that a threat must pass through, that way there is a good clear image. This also works during service when you are scanning the cameras for threats that may come. The more detail you can have of an individual with intent to harm, the better prepared you can be to know what you are facing.

Every church needs a written security plan. Your security plan should include these three main components.

1 - Human Barrier

Security and medical first responder staff are examples of a human barrier.

2 - Technological Barrier

Technological barriers include; proper lighting, cameras, access control, alarms, etc.

3 - Physical Barrier

Walls, doors, fences, and other obstructions are examples of physical barriers.

Of the three, a human barrier is the most effective, it provides subjective intelligent decision-making and can cover various duties when detecting, deterring, denying, delaying and defending your church or business.

Does your church have a security plan? There is a distinction between the two shootings represented by these heroes who stopped them. Stephen Willeford responded to a church that did not have a security plan. When he was made aware and the attack on the church across the street from his home, he got there as quick as he was able. Even in that short time, the shooting still resulted in 46 innocent people being shot, 26 of which are no longer with us today. The Police response time was 5 minutes after he engaged the killer. After the shooting at the Sutherland Springs Church, Jack Wilson implemented a security plan at his church. When the White Settlement church was attacked, their security team was able to stop the threat within 6 seconds. Two honorable men lost their lives protecting the rest of the flock, but if the security plan had not been in place it could have been another Sutherland Springs.
