When is it ok to fire a customer or let them walk away?

Yes, you heard that right. Not only can a company get fired from a job, but a customer too needs to understand they can get fired from the company or have the company let them walk away. I will NEVER chase a homeowner, I strongly believe the value and relationship I build with my clients separates me from the rest of the solar sales people.

When I left the B2B world and jumped all in to the B2C world, I vowed to never stray from what is right. And what is right is being open and honest with potential clients, making sure they fully understand not only the value in what they are getting, but also how it works and what to expect. This week, I had the pleasure of two clients walk away from me. And I couldn't be happier. One of them used me for all my knowledge and information and then decided to go with the cheapest option. This cheapest option in my opinion is boarder line tax fraud on what he got, but this homeowner didn't want to hear it. The funny thing is, they even told me after spending hours going back and forth that they can see why people choose to work with me and understand that price isn't everything. So when they came to me with this cheaper price, I wanted to walk away, but since I don't own the company I had to take it to them and let them decide. The company, on a whim decided to match the price but we needed to see what we were up against. When we got the other agreement, we immediately decided that we wanted no part of this and told the homeowner to go with the other company as we were not willing to put our reputation on the line and do something that could very easily come back and be considered fraud.

The second client, had no business going solar, I literally told him to buy from someone else as I was not going to entertain what he wanted to do. He quickly changed his tune after hearing me out. After working with him for about a week, he finally decided what he wanted. He was looking for a monthly payment to meet his electricity 💲 . But what he wasn't understanding is that he will still have an electricity bill...

So moral of the post. Is it is ok to NOT win every deal. All business is not necessarily good business and your reputation means more to you than the little money you may make by signing every deal. In the long run, those deals will end up costing you way more...

I don’t usually post about politics, but I recently had a chance to connect with someone who truly impressed me. A few months ago, I met a couple while consulting on a solar and battery project for their home. Getting to know them, it was clear they are genuinely "special" people who care about our city’s future.

This time yesterday, power was trading at $1.83 MWH or 0.183¢ kWH (UNDER A PENNY), today that same power is now trading at $162.30 MWH or 16.30¢ kWH. That's a 8,768.85% INCREASE IN 24 hours!!!

I’m sure we all know what this is on the power pole. If you don’t, this is a transformer and it will feed power to your house and possibly a few of your neighbors as well. This one is a pretty big transformer and what I want o share with you is the number on the front.

This is a 100kVA transformer and what that means when or if, you or any of your neighbors that are connected to that transformer want to go solar, then you have to get an interconnect agreement with Centerpoint. And when Centerpoint looks at the equipment on your house, they are going to determine if the size solar system you are putting on your home is the right size for the transformer to handle it, as the transformer is rated to receive up to 80% of the rated name plate or YOU the homeowner has to pay to upgrade it…

That is outside of the solar company’s control. However , that is why you work with someone like me!

Don’t forget to checkbook with your tax assessor to aee if you can qualify for the solar/wind exemption !

Don't just say you will do something, actually do it! Customer service in the solar industry is something that needs to be brought to everyone's attention, when you go solar you are making a fairly large investment into your property and it is one that should not be taken lightly. I treat every client like they are family. The Singam's have been a client of mine for awhile and I'm glad they know that when I told them I would be here for them, that they had the confidence to reach out so I could continue to prove it to them!
