đźš« Unpopular opinion:

A lot of businesses don't need a new website.

They need a website that actually works for the business they have today.

Over the years, I've worked with businesses, organizations, educators, ecommerce stores, membership communities, and service providers who all had one thing in common:

Their business had evolved.

Their website hadn't.

Sometimes the problem wasn't the design.

Sometimes it was:

• confusing navigation
• outdated information
• poor mobile experience
• missing lead capture opportunities
• difficult-to-find resources
• a website that wasn't supporting the day-to-day operations of the business

A website should do more than exist.

It should help visitors find what they need, understand what you do, and take the next step with confidence.

I recently added several project case studies to my portfolio showing the strategy, functionality, and business goals behind the websites I've built over the years.

Not just what they look like.

How they work.

And why they were built the way they were.

A lot of small business owners are spending way too much time trying to hold together the “tech side” of their business.

Website updates. Forms. Email setup. Plugins. Security. Mobile issues. Hosting. Broken things that suddenly stop working for no apparent reason.

Most people didn’t start their business because they wanted to spend hours troubleshooting websites.

You don’t have to become a web developer to run a successful business.

Sometimes the best thing you can do is hand that part off to someone who understands both the technical side and the reality of running a small business.

That’s a big part of what I do at Wild Root Web.

I help business owners get the behind-the-scenes website and tech pieces set up, cleaned up, maintained, and running smoothly - so they can spend more time focused on the actual work they care about.

Real support. Real conversations. No call centers. No bots.

Just thoughtful help from a real person who quietly keeps things moving behind the scenes.

If your website or tech setup has been sitting in the “I really need to deal with this…” category lately, you’re definitely not alone.

If your website is something you avoid thinking about… you’re not alone - and you don’t have to keep managing it yourself.

I help small business owners with WordPress website support, management, and design so their site feels reliable instead of stressful.

Your website doesn’t have to be completely broken to quietly start working against your business.

A lot of small business websites slowly become outdated over time - not because the business isn’t good, but because things evolve.

Here are a few signs your website may be overdue for a refresh:

• You hesitate before sharing your website
• It no longer reflects your business well
• The mobile version feels clunky or hard to use
• Visitors seem confused about where to click or what you offer
• Updating simple things feels frustrating or time-consuming
• The design feels noticeably “from another era”
• Your business has grown, but your website hasn’t kept up

Most of the websites I work on still technically function. They just aren’t supporting the business the way they should anymore.

A thoughtful refresh can often make a bigger difference than people expect - both visually and functionally.

Have you looked at your own website recently and thought, “Yeah… this probably needs some attention”? 👀

A lot of small business owners are carrying way more “website responsibility” than they really need to.

Updates. Plugins. Broken forms. Weird layout issues. Trying to figure out whether something is actually wrong or just looks wrong on mobile. Wondering if the site is even helping the business anymore.

It’s a lot.

Most people don’t actually want to become “website people.” They just want their website to:
• work properly
• support their business
• bring in inquiries
• and not constantly sit in the back of their mind as another thing they need to deal with

That’s honestly a big part of what I do.

Not just designing websites, but quietly and reliably handling this important part of someone’s business so they can focus on the work they actually want to be doing.

Sometimes that means improving an outdated site. Sometimes it means ongoing support and management. Sometimes it’s just having someone trusted to reach out to when things stop working the way they should.

I still think there’s a lot of value in having a real person behind the scenes who understands both the technical side and the reality of running a small business.

One thing I’ve noticed after working with small business websites for so many years is that a lot of business owners carry a quiet mental load around their website.

It’s always sitting somewhere in the background: “I really need to deal with that.”

Not because the site is completely broken - but because it doesn’t quite feel current, clear, or fully supportive of the business anymore.

A lot of websites don’t suddenly stop working overnight. They slowly become harder to manage over time.

Pages get added. Things shift. Plugins pile up. The business evolves, but the website never fully catches up with it.

And eventually you end up with a site that technically exists… but doesn’t really feel like it’s helping you the way it should.

Honestly, that’s a much more common situation than most people realize.

The good news is that it’s not always a “throw everything away and start over” problem. Sometimes a website just needs thoughtful improvements, clearer structure, and someone willing to look at it as part of the business as a whole instead of just a collection of pages.

I'm curious - what’s the biggest thing that frustrates you about your website right now (or has in the past)?
